Does anyone have advice on which school is best for construction management? I’m also interested in hearing from current students (or parents of) and people in the business. I welcome thoughts and advice.
I have been accepted to
Auburn
Wentworth
University of Denver
UMass Amherst
I am awaiting on Clemson, Virginia Tech and CalPoly SLO.
Thank you.
In Massachusetts. All options are comparable (relatively) financially with Umass being the cheapest (I’ll likely not get aid, though haven’t heard yet). I think I have eliminated Denver since that is most expensive and I did not get aid…
Primarily looking for which programs are most reputable and will afford opportunity. They seem to be relatively comparable in terms of job placement upon graduation…
Recruiting, even at the top programs always has a more regional flavor. By that I mean if you’re an engineering student at Illinois for example, a well respected program, they’ll get national and international companies recruiting there, but they’ll also get the bulk of the regional companies that don’t have the budget to recruit elsewhere. So, if you plan on staying in the east, you might find placement a little easier if you’re at an east coast school.
I like Cal Poly. My son is an ME there, but there won’t be many (any?) opportunities in MA at their job fair. Virtually all of their grads work in CA. They have broader recruiting reach in the college of engineering. With that said, it’s in an idyllic location and has strong engineering and architecture colleges. I can’t say it’s better than any of the rest though because my CM knowledge isn’t strong at all.
I second what eyemgh said about regional flavors. At any construction company, you will typically find more locals than people from across the country.
I work in an affiliated industry in Virginia and know both Auburn and Va. Tech have excellent building science programs. I am not familiar with the other programs on your list.
