Hey Jenskate. I was accepted to the Natural Science School for chemistry. I am from Long Island by the way. I am from Roslynn. I was considering the Rice/Baylor program but didn't think I had a chance. However, I think that I most likely will not be attending unless I get in no where else because my mom is not too thrilled with the 4 hours plane rides back and forth. Anyways, thanks for all your help

Oh, Dog, it takes WAY longer than 4 hours. It took me 14 hours to get home for thanksgiving (ok, but the plane was delayed...) and 9 for christmas break.

Ha, I'm going to live 20 minutes from my college. When a new highway is built, probably about 10. (However, I'm a little TOO close to home; I think about a 3 hour driving time is just about right).

Jenskate- D's boyfriend is from Queens. He is in Brown College. If you ever need a ride to the airport or anything, let me know. D has a car down there.

hehe I just find it funny that we NY-ers have a thread (started by, of course, jenskate) - though mainly LIers as of now

I was accepted ID, Weiss Nat Sci, from Syosset LI.. and similar to Dog, it was mainly because of the Rice/Baylor program. But after talking/reading blogs of some current students, I think I am considering attending with or without R/B.

9 hour plane flights? did you have 100000 connections or something? I go every other summer to Laguardia airport and it's only a 4 hour flight for me. Which isn't bad considering it's like a 3 hour drive to Austin. LOL

You will be in delay-trouble if you fly from JFK. The best route to Houston is through EWR (Newark); since Newark and Houston are both Continental hubs, there are plenty of daily flights and good prices. Moreover, Newark is extremely efficient; I have never suffered a delay at that airport, even during peak seasons.

Actually i generally travel to islip via southwest. But my 9 hours includes the half hour travel to the airport, the 1.5 hours that you have to be at the airport before departure, the half hour time when the plane sits on the ground (it's a direct flight but not non-stop), the time it takes to get the bags, and the time it takes to drive from the airport to my house. It's 9 hours door to door. Which is really what matters in my opinion.
