is there such thing as being accepted off the waitlist even though you haven't contacted/sent anything extra in?

to the people who were admitted off el waitlist!!!!! first of all...YAY!! and now, a question. how many days did it take for your packages to come in the mail? i'm starting to freak out about the veracity of the phone call i got. wheee i love yale. ok.

When you guy got admitted of the wait list, did your Yale eli account on the internet update saying that you are now admitted?

nope the stuff on the website havent been updated...but i got the package a couple of days ago

My daughter's package arrived on Thursday.

Well...what is there on the website to be updated?

There was nothing in the package regarding the website.

Congrats to all! The admits website came back on board with this awesome information about Yale. Try admits.yale.edu then type in your Eli name and password. They put the admits site back up because we went through a terrible withdrawal without it. ; ) Go to the yale.edu/freshman and sign in. You may be able to get to the boards. Also, try techautos.com/yale2010 which is the site our classmate arranged when we thought the site went down on the 15th of May.

Hey Lauren
Guess who am I!=)

Anyway, U seem VERY enthusiastic about having admits.yale.edu back!

yes! All the Yale 2010 forum buddies :) The real question is, guess who I am.

em, the only questions is who of the 20 people from bay area are you?

Don't wanna be a Debbie Downer, but do all these people being accepted off the waitlist mean the yield was lower than last years?

possibly. the academic year has ended, seniors have graduated, yet the admissions office continues to stonewall on yield numbers.

with schools like yale taking a significant number of people off the waitlist...that means their acceptance rate is rising?

I doubt if the number will be that high. If they stick to the target class size of 1310, the initial admit number of 1,823 would have to rise to 1,855 in order to have a yield rate as low as last year's. I'd say 32 off the WL is unlikely in the extreme.

Someone called me a Debbie Downer yesterday when I was mourning the death of my dog...

On a more relevant note, something is obviously up the yield. But don't worry, Yale. I still love you.

My sources (sorry, won't divulge) tell me that 46 were taken off the waitlist. Yale housing is overcrowded and the last couple of classes had higher yields than the admissions office expected. My bet is that the admissions office was EXTREMELY conservative in the number of students it initially admitted and planned on accessing the waitlist.

Yale is still accepting students off the waitlist. My son got THE call today at 5:40. The packet is being mailed early next week and he has until the 12th to give them his answer. The admissions rep told him that Yale has taken 45 students (from the 800) on the waitlist.

I'm not sure of my math, but if ypsimama and admissionsaddict are right as to the number of waitlist offers, I believe that Yale would have a yield of apprioximately 69% (in order to get a target class of 1310 students, only 1265 of the original 1823 admitted must have accepted). Is that correct?
