Accepted RD for 2010

well... I do like tall guys... I guess I'll just have to scout out the specific "few guys that are worth looking at." As UMR says, "the odds are good but the goods are odd" ;).

Just went to visit Mudd today. Unfortunately, I couldn't go to the reception, so I just walked around. Unfortunately (again), there wasn't much to see. Mudd is a LOT smaller than I thought. I think it's possible to walk the entire length of the campus in 3-4 minutes, and the width in <1 minute. Yet out of the 10 or so people I saw on campus, 4 of them were on skateboards.

Papers, couches, and lemons were everywhere. Some tall guys were playing loud rock and roll music. Some passerby was talking to himself. Yet, I feel this sense of community on campus. Doors are left open. Bikes were unchained. It seems like such a close-knit community. The surrounding area is really nice, too.

Now that I've visited both HMC and USC, I can finally compare both schools. Hopefully I can make a decision by next week.

For5aken, I urge you interact with some people. The people are really what makes the experience worthwhile in my opinion.

Actually, I went at 8:00 at night, so no one was really there.

:( Everyone was down in McCormick hall listening to one of two different lectures.

If you still can, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend interacting with professors on campus. You can pretty much walk in and ask someone about their field or where certain people are and theyd be happy to talk to you. You really dont get the same idea by walking around since a lot of the sutff is actually underground. and centralized at one side of the school.

Also, you are allowed to take courses from the entire CMC system and even take off-campus majors now if you like. The campus of HM is small, but its really only a small portion of everything.

Sorry you missed the reception tho =/

Yeah, I regret not going.

By underground, you mean that there are classes underground? I saw a professor walk out from under where I was standing at the koi pond, but that was it.

Well, did you ever go into McCormick which had the apollo infront of the entrance? It basically has all of the main science buildings connected by tunnels which serves as its own underground building w/ rooms.

I didnt really notice it until we went on tours starting in one building and ending up in a completely different one.

I must say I really enjoyed my visit this weekend. The party at West was fun, and relieved any worries I had about a diminished social life, and I really enjoyed talking to various students and professors. I'm still torn between HMC and USC, as I see wonderful qualities in both, so I guess now is t-chart time! Well, I fly home tomorrow, so perhaps I should get some sleep now. au revoir :D

i'm glad you guys liked your little taste of mudd. (who said mudd tasted bad?!)

dncr, you liking the party makes picking the lemons worth it!

dncr: Wanna share your list?

ok ok so I never actually made a list. I'm telling you--I'm lazy as heck. But here's what I can throw out in ten minutes after track practice as my body and mind are exhausted:

USC pros
awesome film school and awesome film classes
even percentage of male-female
lots and lots of people to meet
good parties; lots of variety
SCHOOL SPIRIT--GO TROJANS
medium-level classes
me wearing my usual mini-skirt and tank top will probably seem normal
away from my ex-boyfriend
CALIFORNIA, BABY

USC cons
downtown LA--as a small town girl, this is pretty scary. esp. since I've yet to understand there IS danger out there in the world, and I can't just go up to ANYBODY to talk.
big campus--I'm lazy
big lectures; not much personal interaction w/ teachers
not enough MO ppl to understand my wacky southern ways
really weird mascot
me make the Trojans' track team? HA!
away from my ex-boyfriend (both pro & con--depending on whether we're fighting or not)

HMC pros
small campus--I'm lazy
access to four other campuses if I feel motivated to move
one-on-one interaction with teachers
good parties; limited variety
small, quiet town for an easy transition for the small town girl
I LOVE the dress shop in the Village
I also LOVE the candy shop in the Village
possibility to try out for athletics
near my ex-boyfriend
once again--CALIFORNIA, BABY

HMC cons
very small campus
few girls; too much sausage
not very many ppl to meet after a while
not enough MO ppl to understand my wacky southern ways (again)
even weirder mascot
hard as heck classes
me wearing my usual mini skirt and tank top will probably seem out of place... or so I noticed from my visit
near my ex-boyfriend (both pro & con--depending on whether we're fighting or not)

This is just the start of my list... if you wanna talk more, like say when I'm better rested, IM me at dncrditzx22 or email me at hugxkiss22429@gmail.com. (this is OK to put, right?)

btw you must share yours with me too!

USC pros
lots of people to meet
made some friends on CC already
pretty campus
freshman science honors
college science honors
ok scholarship
cute girls
school spirit
Trojan Family
PLAIN FUN

USC cons
South-Central (but I already come from a similar neighborhood)
a little too big?
costs a LOT
not ranked very high (30)

HMC pros
small campus (pro and con)
awesome rankings
close interactions with professors
connections with big companies
pretty good scholarship
handwritten notes from the adcoms

HMC cons
too few people, might get bored of them after 4 years
not enough girls (even though they're pretty as heck!)
killer classes = embarrasing GPA
not as big of a name as USC
may cause depression

Talk about ambivalence...my opinion changes every day.

omg, you are like... my twin or something, seperated at birth. I'm with you on a lot of those things, although I'm from a small town, not anything like LA, and I'm a girl, not a guy, so my opinion differs on that one :P. This is a tough decision... I'm tempted to just flip a coin, but that would be risking my happiness for four years based on twenty-five cents. I'm very unlucky when I put things to chance, anyway.
I think what I've decided on right now is to go to HMC for undergrad, and USC for grad (I'm interested in pharmacy). I get the best of both worlds that way, right? Just means I've got to have my next 8 yrs planned out pretty well, and um... I'm not too good with plans. So, sry guys, but you aren't getting rid of me from HMC :P.

Wow...I'm going into pharmacy as well. Talk about seperated twins! :p

I haven't made up my mind yet, but I think going to HMC for undergrad would be a good idea. If things don't work out, I can transfer out to SC and then reapply, I guess. This is tough stuff.

omg For5aken, where have you been all of my life?!?! If we end up at the same college together, you've totally gotta run, b/c I'm so going to bug you every night and turn you into like, my favorite study partner!! :-P. Wow that was quite possibly the ditziest, most cheerleader-esque I've ever sounded in quite some time.

Uh oh......

** I'm like the guy who is just sitting there watching two long-lost sisters discover eachother... thinking *?

Hahaha! I'm a guy, but yea...

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showpost.php?p=2178822&postcount=20

Now I'm leaning towards USC...:(

shot down
I felt a bit differently at USC, actually--I mean, the students were all incredibly friendly, esp. the ones I met at PreviewUSC and at the TrojanTV station, but I had a lot of trouble working with the Admin. & FinAid offices, & it wasn't quite as easy for me to find help when I wanted it while I was there...so I guess my experience was a bit different than that woman's.
