Accepted/rejected

what exactly is good to get into this school? like minimally?
what exactly is bad/or could be a reach for this school?

is the fact that this school is switching to the common application a bad sign for people living in state or out of state or both?

bump…

First, don’t bump after 15 minutes…

Second, rephrase your first two questions since they aren’t complete and I have no idea what you’re asking.

As for your third question, I think that it’s possible that they will get applicants of higher caliber, but being a state institution, they will still select a large number of in-state applicants. I don’t think it would have any negative effect for any applicants. It will definitely be nice for applicants that want to apply to U-M as well as any of the other schools using the common app.

what can potentially get you into michigan even if you have some certain flaws in your application? like, bad essays good gpa and test scores or vice versa? what will guarantee/have a good bet on admittance even with the minimum amount necessary? im asking for like actual test scores/gpas/essay necessities.

what can potentially get you rejected from michigan? what can hinder the process of getting in?

and thanks for answering that. !

your questions are impossible to answer. There are so many individual factors, there is no way to answer.
U of M emphasizes GPA over test scores, and they also emphasize AP and honors over general courses. A 3.6 with 9 AP courses > 4.0 with 1 ap course. Apart from this, there’s nothing else to know except to try hard in your classes and apply early

okay.
also, do they put any weight (meaning do they take some part) in the courses taken freshman year?

these might help you a little bit

What do you think of a 3.8 with 5 AP courses? With probably 4 more senior year.

^it all depends on how strong you relative to the people in your school. If there are a good deal of students with a similar courseload and GPA, your not in great shape. But unless your going to some prep/private school, your probably get admitted

on many transcripts, they show the rigor of the middle school courseload as well, going into high school. that already shows that the kid was taking extremely tough courses at a younger age. do they take that into account as well? many kids from my school will not have that who are ranked higher.

also, many students had an extremely tough freshman year, while others didnt because at the time, michigan was not putting any weight on freshman year. will that be taken into account now?

They will be clearly most interested in what you’ve done with yourself in terms of GPA, standardized test, leadership, and overall rank/recommendations over your Junior year. They will be interested in trend, meaning an upward trend; consistent rigor and evidence seriousness about school. That said, if you had a rough start or had other obstacles to overcome, and then have evidence you overcame them, you can still be a solid candidate. Eg. my son had a lower GPA in freshman and sophmore year, then a major spike in Junior year (to 3.92) and consistent performance in his senior year (3.93) and he got in.
Good luck, and remember, show them what you’ve done LATELY and be sure to explain what you learned from any difficult time.
