Accepted Students: Congratulations !

Hey Choran57,

I know a philosophy major.
I also know people in the PNP program (Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology)

Which one are you interested in? I can forward any questions you have towards the program to them, and I’m sure they will be very happy to help you out!

I have some questions about PNP. Mainly, how is it for people who want to do neuroscience research? Also, would it be relatively easy for a PNP major to minor in say, Italian? Oh, and one more: are PNP majors able to study abroad?

Hey soccer_girl4life

Thanks for your question. I’m not a PNP major but I know several friends who are, so I will direct your question over to them.

First, though, do you mind posting the same question over at the ‘Specific Majors Q&A’
at the WUSTL 2014 subforum?

[WUSTL 2014 - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/wustl-2014/)

This way other PNP students who have the same question as you do can also read up on the answer. And we can generate some momentum in the newly created WUSTL 2014 forum! Thanks again.

You will love Olin. You will be able to do dance. The first semester is tough (like any great school) so don’t overload especially if you want to do dance first semester. After the first semester you will know how to ‘manage’ your course schedule i.e. time of day, distance to next class, frequency of class each week. My son is a frosh in Olin and loves it. He does some extracurricular things and does have time. Good luck.

Zenith, you are really amazing!! I was admitted into Olin and LAS and I like wustl much more after reading your posts! Here I got 2 questions:

–I didn’t apply for FA so I wasn’t offered any kind of scholarship. But is it possible to get merit scholarship if I shoot nice scores in college? If yes, what’s the name of it?

–I noticed some of your replies are very late at night  Do wustl students have to stay up late due to acdemic stress and EA?

Thx sooo much for your help!!! =]

you are not from Asia, aren’t you. Well actually the time you see on those posts actually uses your computer time… Like if they post at 9 am CT, you will actually see 10 pm on your screen.

Had the same question before, but figured it out later.

Hi chenzishu,

Thanks for your questions.
Yes, I have been staying up late- call it my relatively free senior year or the habits of WashU students (my friend was wide awake until 4am last night studying for a science class…he was quite chipper too but that’s just him…please guys, get sleep while you can). Oh, and I probably have my time set on Pacific since I had this account waaay back in the day since the CA high school days.

Okay, here are your questions and answers:
–I didn’t apply for FA so I wasn’t offered any kind of scholarship. But is it possible to get merit scholarship if I shoot nice scores in college? If yes, what’s the name of it?
Yes. There are merit scholarships within your undergraduate years in the Arts and Sciences (not sure about Business, but I can ask for you). There is the Florence Moog one and several others. There are also sizeable and nice research scholarships such as the Howard Hughes Medical Institute ones ($4000). If you sign up for the Arts and Sciences email subscription you will get notifications when there are scholarships available. Some like the Florence Moog pay for semesters’ tuition, but as always these are highly competitive.

–I noticed some of your replies are very late at night Do wustl students have to stay up late due to acdemic stress and EA?
Oh I just realized I answered this in the beginning of my post. From my experience most WashU students probably study up to 2AM at the latest. However, I would be in the later group, since I study up to 3-4AM along with the other students in Whisper’s Cafe (night lounge of the late-night, and it’s pretty safe). I know one premed who always went to sleep at 12am (and had dinner at exactly 6pm too, for that matter). So it does vary depending on your workload, other activities taking up your time, and procrastination-restraint skills (very important in college). I notice a trend relative to time of semester-- at the beginning of the semester and around breaks, there are less people in Whisper’s and less people staying up later than 1AM) During finals and midterm weeks, expect a lot of people staying up late.

So if my account’s frozen/locked because I tried to log in too many times incorrectly (and still answered the secret question incorrectly) I will have to call the admissions office, correct?

S accepted, no $ ;( We expected that.
Insert offered to fly him in for a visit-is that common? He is interested in playing a sport there, but I’m not sure if that is relevant. Can’t afford the price, comparing it to other engineering schools that have made generous offers.
Fab campus and city, tho.

altruition:
Which account are you referring to?

ahhhh…yes, i’m from China ;)

aha, same!

Zenith:
thx a lot!! yes, staying up late in collge is inevitable, i think i’ll figure out a way to keep awake anyway… ;)

… up to 2 or 3, OMG. I always believe that I already get small sleep by going to bed around 12:30 and waking at 6, never come to mind your guys are this crazy…

Yea, I remember going to sleep at 12am was very late for high school (such sweet simple times). In college your body gets adjusted to a whole new schedule. I don’t know-- maybe it’s just me and my other crazy friends. I know people who sleep by 12. Most of my friends who stay up late are the premeds, engineers, and an economics major who is aiming for a 4.0

Hey zenith,

you mentioned that there are scholarships during undergraduate years for art & sci. Do you know if it is available for engineering as well? Also, is this info mentioned anywhere on the Internet? (I couldn’t find it, always directs me back to the admission merit scholarships)

Hi everyone! Congratulations! WashU is absolutely amazing and I know that my experience here has been more than I could ever dream of. Definitely come visit if you haven’t had the chance, and feel free to PM me any questions, etc. If you are going to be visiting campus, I might be available to show you around and give you an “inside scoop” so to speak. I’m pre-med, but I am familiar with many of our academic departments and schools. If any of you are going to be here tomorrow definitely PM me.

Congrats!

-WashU Student

Hi FutureDoc! (and fellow WashU student)

Maybe I know you, maybe I don’t. xD
Thanks for helping out here too. I’ve been answering questions about WashU premed also-- I started a thread ‘WashU Premed Q &A at the WUSTL 2014 subforum.’ Please let me know if I missed anything there. ^_^

This is nice, check it out

This school has lots of dough and uh, everything else it seems.
I’m starting to love WashU more and more…
