Accepted students thread

Now I'll be even more devastated if I don't get accepted! lol well I'll hopefully find out today:)

I logged onto my SU Online profile thing and I was looking at classes for 2009 winter quarter and it said that all Intro to Psych classes were already filled to capacity. Is that like a glitch or something?
Also, is each class 2 quarters?
Woooooooooo I cant wait to visit!

2009 Winter Quarter is actually the upcoming quarter, for which registration has already occurred. You would be starting in Fall Quarter 2009.

Each class is only one quarter. Basically, here's how it works. During the traditional school year, there are actually only three quarters, each of which is ten weeks long--mid-September to winter break is Fall Quarter, January until spring break is Winter Quarter, April until the end of the year is Spring Quarter. There's also Summer Quarter, which most people don't do, and that's the fourth quarter. Unlike with the semester system, a typical student in the quarter system will take only three classes. Generally each class is worth five credits, which is around five hours per week of class time. Most classes meet two or three days a week for about an hour and a half, two hours or so.

That was more than you asked for, haha, but a lot of people aren't familiar with quarters, and I personally love the system. I like the idea of having fewer classes at a time and switching things up fairly often.

If you need any pointers for your visit or anything, feel free to message me and ask!

Ok that's good to hear lol. I was afraid that everyone got their decisions before me and signed up for classes. I guess that that's pretty unrealistic though lol.
The quarter system sounds pretty nice because the boring classes will only be 10 weeks:P

I was accepted! I am probably going to end up at Seattle U, so i'm relieved that I got in. Now i don't have much to worry about.

shiftyeyes I have a question...
Is seattle U much of a dry campus?

Congrats!!!

I don't know if I can/am going to give you the best answer, but here's to giving it a shot.

Technically speaking, SU is not a dry campus, meaning that students over 21 are allowed to have alcohol. I know alcohol has even been served by the school at certain events (in a separate designated area, with a wristband or something) such as the fall semiformal.

As far as underaged drinking and strictness, from what I've seen and heard, they're about as good/bad at spotting it as any other school. And from what I've seen and heard, they seem pretty strict about it when people actually do get caught. As a minor, you can get written up just for being in a room where people have booze, even if you're not the one drinking (if you're of age, you're also responsible if you have minors around your alcohol). It has definitely happened, but it has also definitely been forgiven.

This, of course, doesn't mean people don't drink underage.

Different dorms have different reputations and environments in terms of their drinking culture, plus a lot of people go off campus. The social scene definitely doesn't revolve around drinking, but there's no stigma or taboo around it or anything. It's openly there.

Basically, I don't drink at all, and it's not hard for me to avoid it. But plenty of people get wasted all the time, or just drink casually/socially/every once in a while, and it's not hard for them to find it.

Thanks shifteyes! I have another question (but you may not know the answer...)

I play tennis for my high school, and now that I am accepted to SU I have been thinking about contacting the tennis coach, but i also noticed that SU has transitioned to D-I athletics, and I'm not sure if its even worth it (i am pretty talented and love the game, but its more of a hobby for me). Is the women's tennis team any good? If its not very good, maybe i will contact the coach...

Unfortunately, I don't know for sure. But I'm sure the coach would be willing to answer questions about the time commitment involved and such.

Best hopes!
