When there is a will, there is a way. Lafayette teen accepted into 139 colleges, awarded $8.7 million in scholarships.

That’s ridiculous. Every year there is some story like this. The reality is it costs money to apply to these schools in most cases. Can’t imagine he got 139 waivers.
And really…so what about the amount. He can only use the amount he received from the college where he chooses to matriculate.
This is much ado about nothing.
I believe that this was an applicant who applied a year ago.
Hopefully she found a school which will allow her to stack her scholarships & keep the excess.
Ah yes…a year ago. I believe there was a thread about this a year ago, and it was already discussed.
Maybe someone else can find it…I’m not having much luck with the search function.
IIRC, there was quite the discussion.
Not likely. The scholarships came from different colleges…and can’t be used…except at the college that awards the money.
My bad. It is from last year. I don’t know if someone broke this record or not. You have to give it to these kids and their guidance counselors, applying to hundreds of colleges to get accepted at 139 is no easy task. An average student can’t handle more than 10-15 applications. An average high school wouldn’t even allow more than 20-25 applications, let alone offer any support.
The Common Black College Application currently lets you apply to 55 colleges using one form, all for 20 bucks. So that would have accounted for a big chunk of the schools.
Here is last year’s thread.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Since this is an old story that was already discussed, I am closing this thread.
