is there anyone who is accepted to deerfield but doesn't want to attend?

I was accepted to Deerfield, but I will not be attending...I'm going to Andover. I did really enjoy my visit there, though.

Why not? Could you tell me more about your visit? I might be applying there next year.

Well...as you probably know, Deerfield is located in a rural place, and though it's wonderful, the city, etc. would be less accessible. Andover, of course, is only about 30 minutes away from Boston (when there's no traffic, at least) and located near other suburban areas. Also, I am going to be a day student at Andover, while I would obviously board at Deerfield - a popular thing with my parents :)

More importantly, the academics and campus resources don't match those of Andover's. While the Koch Center was virtually my reason I applied to Deerfield, Andover has its science center, telescope, attractive buildings...not that I'm trying to slander Deerfield, but I found the Andover campus more appealing.

My visit to Deerfield was wonderful. Actually, my tour guide chose Deerfield over Andover! My interview was easily the best I had - my interviewer was very friendly, warm, and welcoming. We laughed and smiled a lot during our conversation, and I received some Deerfield publications (they're big on writing) to read.

I enjoyed being in the admissions building. It has an old world library feel to it - the waiting room is filled with books available for the reading, as well as awards won. I was also greeted by a nice portrait of Eric Widmer, haha :) In my opinion, the campus felt spread out, probably because of its rural locale. Not bad, but I prefer Andover.

Of course, all of this is just my opinion. There were other reasons I chose Andover - for one, I'm rather familiar with it. I know a few people at Andover. Plus, it's my dream school. Overall, I just feel that Andover accommodates more of what I want. Jonathan, if you want, you can PM me and we'll talk more.

Deerfield is magnificent. The rural location is a plus if you are boarding. It is an idyllic setting to study, play sport, music, etc. Can't wait to start!
