Accepted to IU for Fall 2008!!!

Woohoo!

This is my second choice though, I'm still waiting on U of M (Carlson)..

I've heard the party scene is pretty good in IU Bloomington...

Is it mostly people from Indiana that come here? or what's the distribution?

Like any state school, the majority of students who attend are in-state. However, in recent years at IU, nonresident students have begun to comprise a higher percentage of the freshman student body; I believe the ratio is approaching 60/40 for residents to nonresidents, respectively.

Why is it cataloged as such a party school if its in a small town?

because there is not much to do in a small town!

Multitasker is right- I just graduated from IU last summer and Bloomington is just such a college town. Throughout my four years there I met just as many nonresident students as resident students, and am really glad I chose to go there.

I see..

I'm currently in Bemidji State.. it's in Bemidji, MN.. which is 4.5 hrs north of Minneapolis. It's a small town, about 12,000 residents + about 5,000 students. What I don't like is that most people are very conservative. Is it like this in Bloomington? or is it more liberal?

Do you guys know when I'll hear from Financial Aid.. I didn't know it was that expensive until now.. haha.. hadn't checked.

Bloomington's population is about 60,000, IU making up roughly half of that. As far as political views go, I think Bloomington is like a little liberal oasis in the midst of all the corn and cows of Indiana. You can definitely find conservative people if you look for them, but as a whole people here are much more liberal, or at least free spirited about things.

Bloomington's county is the only one in the southern half of the state that went to Obama yesterday, and Bloomington is liberal by Indiana standards. But not nearly as liberal as Minneapolis.

Thx for the info ;)

Congratulations pcristiana on your acceptance to IU. Bemedji? My older son attended Chinese immersion there two summers ago, and my youngest one will be there this summer. It's my oldest that will be attending IU this Fall. From what I understand, IU is similar to most college campuses and leans liberal. Hopefully all views are well tolerated, since I'm sending a chinese speaking ROTC conservative kid that way!

Haha take it from someone who just finished their first year their first year, while Btown may be kinda small there is always a party. My bff goes to Indiana State and she comes to IU almost every wknd and practically lived in my dorm room b/c the parties are much better here. And sooooo much better than Purdont :)

Yea its pretty liberal here, I am in your predicament and it can sometimes seem a little bit overwhelming but you have your usual bunch or people at IU. Most of the out-of-state kids tend to be from the Region (ie Chicago area)
