Accepted to Michigan! (but bound to Penn?)

Hi guys, well Im really happy because i was accepted ED to Penn on thursday and then yesterday I found out I was accepted to Michigan! I was really excited but I was also wondering if this is in some way a breach of the ED plan...do I call Michigan to tell them that I was accepted ED somewhere so I can't go? or do I just never turn in the deposit? What exactly is the protocol in this type of situation? Any help ASAP would be greatly appreciated!

The only way to break the ED plan is to prove that your family is in financial turmoil (i.e. you cannot afford it).

However, in terms of cancelling your Michigan acceptance, all you need to do is to check the "decline" box in the "respond to decision" portion of your wolverineaccess account.

haha oh no im sorry it might not have been clear: i dont want to BREAK the ED plan i love penn, i just want to clear things up with mich...but youre second part of your post answered that question, so thanks!

I got deferred to Penn, but accepted to Michigan with a significant merit scholarship (I'm OOS). Penn was my first choice, that's why I applied ED. But, I think more people know about Michigan. Everyone always confuses Penn with Penn State..no name recognition. Even if Penn accepts me in the spring, I may still pick Michigan...too hard to say "no" to that merit scholarship!

haha umm okaaay...are you just sayin that cause youre a little resentful right now? i dont see why you need to attempt to put down penn anyways, not only is it ivy league, its like the cool ivy league school you know? anyways i know i dont need to tell you about it, since you DID apply ED there, but yeah idont know, who cares if people confuse it with penn state? its NOT penn state. i think. let me go check.

ohh CRAP, i misread the app. is there anyway to undo ED!!!! hahaha jk

hehe, Dulce, I'm in the same EXACT situation, right down to the deferral and scholarship. UMich and Penn were always tied for first choice, but I really wanted to make SURE I got into one or the other, which is why I applied Penn ED (Mich doesn't have ED). Perhaps I'll see you at one place or the other =p

Calm down, adidas. What she's saying is true...especially outside of the tri-state area, I have met many people who don't know what UPenn is/confuse it with Penn State/don't know it's an ivy. It is an amazing school, definitely deserving of being an ivy, but sadly it doesn't always get that recognition.

hey dont tell me to calm down over the internet, im not upset lol, its just like ok fine penn doesnt have name recognition, what does that have to do with my question though?? i just thought it was unnecessary and kind of defensive....i didnt even hear of penn before my senior year, but i visited and loved it, which im guessing you guys did too because you both applied ed...

but um anyways im done here, have fun at michigan, or ill see you at penn, good luck either way!!
