So I got into MIT Early Action and that was the only college I applied to early. But the thing is I haven't visited so I'm not 100% sure I'm gonna like it (even though my parents really want me to go). So I applied to Yale, UPenn, and Cornell regular decision because I have visited before I liked them. I know its kinda last minute, but should I apply other places I haven't visited (Duke and JHU), too? I was kinda on the fence and my parents aren't too thrilled about spending the extra money but I'm afraid I won't have any options.

(And I know the JHU deadline is tomorrow and the Duke deadline is the 2nd lol)

Congrats on your acceptance to a great school.
the main question to ask is if you would rather attend Duke or JHU more than MIT. If not, why waste the money? Save it to visit MIT ASAP in order to make your choice. You can then save the time and money to revisit the other schools in April once your other acceptances come in.

Wow congrats! I think you should just to be on the safe side. Try virtual tours if they have them or check out reviews on the school at **************.com

MIT is somewhat tailored to a specific type of student. I would recommend applying to a few more schools ranked 10-30 (like Duke and JHU) in case you don’t get into those three you mentioned (though if you got into MIT, Cornell should be pretty much locked, but Cornell sucks).

Like MizzBee, only apply if you would really consider the school over MIT. Do more research on student life at MIT. Like I said, MIT is pretty tailored to a specific type of student, but you may be that type.

It is interesting that you applied to a school that you have never visited over schools have actually visited and liked. Any specific reason you applied to MIT over Yale (all others seem to be ED and so I can see why not)?

You are asking the question should I apply to more. The thing is none of the schools you listed are a lock and it is quite possible not to be accepted at any of them in RD. So be prepared to go to MIT unless you have a safety or another school you are already admitted to that you are ok with.

If it were me I would stick with MIT, but that’s because I actually want to go there. Can you give me any information about your grades, extra curriculars, ect.to help me figure out what to do in high school to he a good MIT applicant?

@texaspg Yeah you’re right, I didn’t apply to the others early cause they were ED. And after I got into MIT, I took my safeties off my list because to be honest I would go to MIT over them even w/o visiting MIT. I mean I’ve obviously seen pictures and read about it online. And yeah these other schools are basically all reaches. I just applied to JHU right now so fingers crossed for at least 1/4 acceptances I guess…???

I’m in the exact same position. I’m doing HYP regular decision, but in the last few days I’ve also thought about adding tons of random schools that I already ruled out for various reasons. Honestly, it depends how much you like MIT. For me, MIT was my top choice (even though I haven’t visited so I’m not 100% sure) and I also applied to lots of schools early action, so I was comfortable cutting my RD apps back. I would say you will most likely get into Cornell, at a minimum.

I know someone who got into MIT EA and only got into JHU in your list (did not apply to Cornell). Two were deferrals with eventual rejections and one was a rejection.

Be prepared for MIT! It is a great school for the right kid.

@tt6238 To be honest, I think their looking for a wide-range of different things. I think grades are important, but also people with different passions. For me, I love running on the XC and Track teams. But I can’t speak for MIT admissions so I could be totally off lol sorry

@unicameral2013 That’s so funny! Unfortunately none of the schools I was really interested in were EA. And MIT is a great school so it’s not like I’m doomed if I don’t get into any of my RD schools. I think I might I’m going to leave it at UPenn, Yale, JHU, and Cornell.

Like @MizzBee said I should probably save some the money.

@Briannaj Thank you! The url didn’t show up, but I’m pretty sure I looked at all the pictures/videos I could find anyway lol

@Pancaked Thank you. I think I could find my niche somewhere in MIT student life.

@texaspg I know. That’s crazy. College admissions are so unpredictable these days.

Wow! Congratulations on your acceptance to MIT. This is really a subjective question that no one can answer here. You will have to research the programs and student life at MIT to see if it’s for you. I also strongly recommend that you visit it.

Yeah pd2013 I applied to several low matches/safeties cause I was freaking out about being rejected everywhere lol. But y’know, any way you slice it, our current predicament is probably one of the most luxurious “problems” to have. :p
