Accepted to SLO wait listed to Davis

Not sure how this works so any advice would be much appreciated.

My son was admitted to Cal Poly SLO for biology and has a strong interest in going.

His older brother was accepted to Davis last year and had worse stats…and yet younger son got wait listed.

His older brother has been hyping up Davis big time and so younger son was very disappointed to get wait listed .

If decision day is May 1 and he accepts SLO, which I think personally would be the wiser choice as he can branch out on his own , instead is it “legal” to then switch to Davis if he is accepted off the wait list?

Interestingly, older brother was rejected from SLO last year.

Thanks

He can definitely switch to Davis. You’d just be out the SIR money for SLO (it’s $100 for Davis. Not sure what it is there.) Just make sure he’s not committed to two schools at once.

SIR money? We are in a similar position. Waitlisted to Davis, accepted to SLO. If he ays yes to another school by May 1 (as they request) and then gets into Davis - well, is that possible? I don NOT want him to miss out on going to a school. Also got into UC Santa Cruz. Haven’t heard about others yet.

Okay this is precisely why I am so confused.

He needs to SiR by May 1st.

We send in the $ which I don’t care about.
3, AFTER May 1st what if he gets accepted off the wait list from Davis??

Is it too late at that point? Do we call SLO, tell them to keep the $100 And Then accept Davis?

Help!

How do you navigate the switch?

It wouldn’t be too late. There should be somewhere on the SLO portal where you can cancel your SIR, even after May 1st. If your son is accepted off the wait list at UC Davis, he could cancel his SIR to SLO (or wherever) and then accept the offer of admission.
