Can you SIR at one college while accepting wait list at another??

I've heard some scary rumors and I hope someone can clarify.

1) If son commits to Davis by May 1st but they find out he is on the waitlist at Santa Barbara is that something they can withdraw his acceptance for?

This is what I was told.

That UC will yank acceptance away from one University if you try to "play both sides" .

2) If he commits to Davis will Santa Barbara be less likely to admit from the waitlist?

Thanks....freaked out mom.

I would call to confirm, but my understanding is the waitlisted school encourages the student to send a SIR to an accepted school since waitlist decisions are made after the SIR deadline. This is a bit old, but may be helpful:
[University of California - UC Newsroom | UC to wait-list some freshman applicants](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/article/22825)

“Because it is impossible to know how many applicants ultimately will be admitted off the waitlist, students should submit by the stated deadlines an SIR and the requisite deposit to an institution to which they have been admitted,” Wilbur said.

Yup- Accept the waitlist and SIR to another school as a backup. If your soon gets accepted off the waitlist, he can withdraw his SIR from the previous school and re-submit it for the new school.

I think what you may have heard was that if you SIR to more than one school (IE- Your soon gets accepted to every UC and SIR’s everywhere), the schools could revoke his acceptance. If you withdraw and re-submit a SIR for another school though, it shouldn’t be an issue. Just a way for your son to ensure that he is going to school, that’s all! Hope that helps!

There shouldn’t be a problem with SIRing while on another waitlist since they never know how many will get in. Two years ago they let in about 400 people off the waitlist. Last year it was none.
