So, I was just accepted to UNC and am now feeling torn. I will not hear back from the rest of my schools until March/April. Now that I have been accepted, my list of schools in which I am still interested in going to has diminished. I think I would only choose Amherst & Dartmouth for sure over UNC but am unsure about such schools as Bowdoin & Middlebury. I am planning on visiting these schools in spring once decisions have been released, but I am curious as to the opinions about these schools in comparison to UNC. Thanks!

Huh? Is this a test for us CC regulars?

i chose bowdoin over UNC-CH (OS), but not without some serious consideration. i think, for me, the only issue was $, and i was able to make it work, but other than that, i much preferred a small school to a large one. still, UNC has much to recommend, including a fantastic honors program, mild weather, and a great college town. i think you're plan to visit in the spring is a good one, presuming you get in. i think the differences between places like bowdoin and middlebury and UNC will be very tangible when you visit.

good luck!

Wait a minute...there's another thread that you posted saying you got deferred. What's going on here?

Thank you for your response pb2002, it was much appreciated.

Yes, i posted another thread which asked for advice on interested letters. That thread was made first, but it was for a friend. She asked what she should do, and I thought it easier to just post the question and not bother about who it was for. Yes, I have been accepted to UNC.

Amherst and Dartmouth for sure.

Bowdoin and Middlebury are wonderful schools as well.

Keep an open mind, whether you've been accepted or deferred.

It depends on money and if you want a big public school or a small liberal arts school.

UNC is a very different school then Amherst, Middlebury and Bowdoin. If your were willing to choose amherst over it, I don't see why you wouldn't choose M or B... All are going to give you the same level of education, all are top 5 (imo) LACs along with Swarthmore and Williams.

Probably a prestige issue.
Understandable.

A lot of students confuse selectivity of admissions with an excellent college experience. The only way to resolve any question you have about any school is to visit that school and ask as many questions as you can from faculty, administrators, students and parents. Its always subjective as one person's heaven is another person's "you know where."

To a large extent, if you are looking for answers here, you may only find superficial comments and often from people who really don't know, or frankly are not at all like you.

You dont have to decide until May 1. Relax and wait on the other responses. If you got into UNC from out of state, that is a tremendous accomplishment. It has much to offer, though it is surely not for everyone.

Visit and ask, then decide.
