Hi guys i was recently accepted at Deerfield Academy but with no financial aid. This was a shock to both me and my parents because there is no way we can afford the school w/o it! We will probably call the financial aid department tomorrow and talk about our options/appeal the decision. So i was wondering if anyone had any advice on trying to get financial aid and/or if there was ever a story of someone getting in w/o FA then being able to receive it? This is super heartbreaking for not only me but also my entire family and so any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks! Also i don't have the opportunity of applying again next year, and i have talked to one of the coaches there and he wants me on his team pretty badly.

Yes, I successfully appealed for financial aid at Exeter. I didn’t get in completely without financial aid though-I was only a few thousand short. Nevertheless, I have some tips that may help. You need to write a letter/email to the Deerfield FA office explaining why you need FA and what you will bring to the school. Basically, remind them of what a great investment they would be making by giving you FA to come to Deerfield while explaining clearly exactly how much money you need and why you need it. For the part about what you would bring to the school, you could probably mention being on the team you mentioned.

We are in the same position and my son is devastated . To work so hard and get accepted to realize there is no way it is something that we can afford. There is no way we can find an extra 3000$ a month . I have contacted both schools… One school did give us a small amount. Does the financial aid department ever come through ? Anyone’s experiences would be appreciated.

bump

@COOLCAT21, did the school require you to complete the PFS as part of the application? If so, and that report resulted in your family having demonstrated need, I would imagine you’d have a good starting point for an appeal to the Financial Aid office.
