yeah i got accpeted too and now i have to choose between Lafayette and Bates (both full ride). anybody??

Not only is Lafayette great academically, it also has D1 sports and therefore a lot of school spirit. I also like that it is so close to Philly and New York, as opposed to being in a remote location. What clinched it for me is what I understand to be the great teacher/student relationships.

lyjoo0119 how did you get a full ride to lafayette?

I got a little over $42000 per year from lafayette so I only have to pay for books/supplies, travel expenses and health insurance if I choose to go there.

Lyjoo119, both Lafayette & Bates are great schools. Lafayette has a shorter winter. Bates probably has a little more name recognition. How do the offerings in your major stack up at each place? (Check the online course catalogue).

Chillaxin, I don't know where else you are choosing between. I loved Lafayette's sense of community, the gorgeous campus, and the lack of grad students. I also liked how it is right in town, yet separated (by the cliff and the stadium & field house). But I graduated many moons ago. My son was attracted by the small size, quality of academics, the Division I sports, and the excellent condition of the facilities. He will be starting at Lafayette next fall.

i have actually decided on the college of william and mary. i really loved lafayette and found it to be a great fit for me, but i just know i am better off at william and mary as a history and business major. congrats to everyone though!

Chilaxn, many years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was a teenager, my two college choices were William & Mary, and Lafayette. I loved my 4 years at Lafayette, but looking back I can see that William & Mary would have also been a great experience for me as well (perhaps it would have given me the courage to follow my heart and major in US History instead of majoring in Economics so I could get a job). Good luck and have a great 4 years there!

awww thanks! now with their up and coming b-school, which will be completed in 2009, hopefully ill be able to do both. what was your deciding factor?

Got in w/ full ride--I am elated!

Chilasn88, I lived in NJ, most of my friends were going to school in PA, and I was afraid VA was too far away. Also feared everyone at W&M would be from near by and would be able to go home and I'd be stuck on campus by myself.

Also, at the time (1980) W&M's computer system was horribly out of date - they were still programming using punch cards! Even my public hs was beyond that! I didn't want to be a computer major but I thought I should learn something relevant about computers that I might actually use at a job. I'm sure they've gotten much more up-to-date in the last 30 years :-)

But mostly Lafayette just felt right to me. I hope W&M works out as well for you! As a business and history major, it sounds like a good fit.
