Accepted

@Jacobtess - Your a little **** aren’t you… you don’t have to go to Harvard to be successful…Bill Gates didn’t go to college at all and most doctors where I live graduated from Stony Brook which has the 45th best medical school in the country and by far one of the cheapest, thats pretty good if you ask me, but I guess only Harvard is good enough for you.

Right ignore Soccer.

Do you have any idea how many schools there are? Thousands. If you don’t consider something that’s ranked 40th or 50th something good, then you have serious issues.

Stony Brook is famous for its very well respected science program. Its science departments are rated top in the nation, just under like Ivy League.

I used to be like you. You will change. No worries.

Got accepted. Waiting for other school and perhaps Honors College admissions. Still very undecided on major and where I want to attend.

Congratulations to all the others!

Accepted into WISE. Promised a scholarship; details haven’t come in yet :o Dunno if I got into honors… hope I did, but WISE is good enough for me.

I’m probably going to go if I don’t get off Macaulay’s waitlist, or if Binghamton doesn’t give me any scholarships. I’m a premed/bio person, and I just want a cheap but strong undergrad education so I’m not repaying loans into my 40s.

Ahh Jacobtess, I was JUST like you a few years ago.

Anywayyyyy… As NYSpinnerdan said, you shall change.

Yes, Stony Brook is a SUNY and is holistically not around the level of Cornell, Columbia, MIT… However, for certain math and science programs, Stony Brook is on par with ivy league institutions in terms of academic quality and difficulty. ([SUNY Stony Brook’s rankings in the biological sciences](http://life.bio.sunysb.edu/rank.html))

Without repeating Spinnerdan too much, the quality of the school isn’t measured in terms of admissions selectivity or “prestige”. This may sound corny and cliche, but the best school for you is the best school that FITS you.

tl;dr: Stony Brook is an excellent school.

Somebody please tell me that this means I’m accepted:

For New Students

Pay Initial Deposits/Fee, New Student Preferences, Advising Planning Form

Student Financial Services

Account Information/Payment, Financial Aid

Showed up…

Yes it does. Congratulations!

@Violins

Did you apply as a transfer? Mine still hasn’t updated.

@MarkXD: Yeah I applied as a transfer. I was rejected the first time, and I think I’m accepted now.

@Violins

Congratulation!

I applied back in January with the 24/3.0 requirement, so I’m keeping my hopes up. My status is still at “Your application is currently being processed” and I already called up the admission office to confirm if they received my transcript.

okay soo idk if stony accepted me or not.
i haven’t received a letter but
i just signed on my solar today and on the left column there was a link that said “EOP/AIM accept/decline” and i clicked on it and it said that their records indicated that i haven’t made a decision yet.
then under “EOP/AIM accept/decline” there was a link to New Student Preferences.
then under that was Advising Planning Form and i clicked on it and it said that i don’t have an orientation date so i can’t fill it out.

what does all of this meean?
pleaseee help!!

I still haven’t heard back from the Honors College, but I have updates for all you who are in my situation.
I called in and they said that they just haven’t mailed out all their decisions, that they should be doing so this week.

Also, I just received a letter saying that I got the Presidential Scholarship. I looked online and it said that Honors College recipients usually got their merit scholarship in the way of Presidential. Anyone know if there is a connection between the two?

No connection between honors and presidential scholarship, I got it and I am sure as hell not in honors college.

No, there is no connection. Scholarships are done by the financial aid office, and HC/WISE decisions are done by the programs.

Chris

Still haven’t heard either way on my son’s application for Stony Brook. When is the last day for hearing about admissions?

I just received my acceptance letter (in-state transfer).

It was a small envelope with big news inside.

@Violins - Congratulations again!

Btw, how long did it take for your status to update? Mine is still stuck at
“Your application is complete. The admissions committee will be making a decision shortly.”

Is it safe to celebrate because I got the new student and f-aids tab ^^.

@MarkXD - I think about 4 days. You should be getting your letter in about a week.

I would say it’s safe to celebrate.

Got in today as a transfer. :slight_smile:
i was wondering when we get out financial aid packages after accpetance

I got in a month ago…but I just got into Binghamton…
Does anyone have any reasons about why I should go to Stony Brook (and I know it’s cheaper)…I just want to know someone else’s point of view (other than my mom’s)
