Accepting two offers

Hello,

I have been accepted to a university that I cannot attend unless I receive a scholarship I have applied for. Unfortunately, that scholarship is not announced until mid-May. Can I accept offers from two schools, so if I don’t get the scholarship I can attend the other school?

I have contacted the school that I have applied the scholarship for and they said to do this. I was wondering if there would be any repercussions because both of these schools are in the University of Texas system.

I know it is unethical to do this, but I would really love to attend the university I applied the scholarship for. Please let me know if there is any way the other university would know I accepted two offers.

Thanks

I would think that this is acceptable. You’re waiting for critical information from the universities to make your decision, and you’re asking for only 2 additional weeks until you get that information.

Normally this would be considered unethical. However if you have been specifically instructed to do so by one of the universities, that changes things. Can you ask your high school counselor to put a call in to both of them, to find out if there is any communication between the various parts of the U of TX system? Normally there is no way for institutions to know what is going on at another, but that might be different in this case.

Doesn’t seem to be any unethical action here if you are required to wait an additional two weeks to determine the financial aid & final COA for one school–especially since you have cleared this with one school & the other school you plan to attend if you do not receive the scholarship award.

Cover your butt in every way possible. This means making your guidance counselor aware of the situation. You might also make a deposit at your second choice school (understand you may not get it back) or ask for an extension to make your decision.

Same happened to my son two years ago, I explained the situation to the college that give him less scholarship, he liked both schools but the problem was affordability, and they gave him time to wait the response from the scholarship from the other university.
In may 1 we made the acceptance payment just to the college that we were waiting the response from scholarship.
