Greetings,
I’m seeking help because I accidentally messed up my UC financial aid package. I accidentally clicked “off campus” instead of my default “on campus” when asked to accept my financial aid package. As a result, this caused them to re-evaluate my package and lower my aid. The financial aid department is closed and I don’t know exactly what to do. The old offer says it’s expired… Have any of you gone through this and is there anything I can do to fix this?
Pick up the phone first thing on Monday morning, and call them and ask them what to do.
Yes, you will have to call, but another issue is that at this point, there probably isn’t a dorm room for you.
Why did you just discover this now? Didn’t you have to select or find out about dorms awhile ago?
Or did you know that you had selected “off campus,” but didn’t realize that the school would reduce your aid, so now living off-campus isn’t affordable?
Simply call them. Mistakes happen. No biggie.
It can be a “biggie”. Most/all of the UCs have a shortage of on-campus housing. This kid indicated that he’d be off-campus so he’s not been assigned a bed. Simply changing from off campus to on campus will not magically produce a bed from him.
Kids have to be careful with this stuff. It can be enticing to want an off campus apt on financial aid, so some will select that…only to find out that their aid gets reduced…then suddenly they want to be on campus.
I guess OP only screwed up the FA package, it should not affect his housing application. Just call the FA office to correct the mistake.

???
Did he fill out an on-campus housing app (back whenever it was due)?
I thought financial aid and housing application is not linked. But if he call right away it should be straightened out.
Housing application was a long time ago, you either know or not know back in a June whether you get housing or not.
@drgoogle We don’t know if this student filled out a housing app.
He may have intended on living off-campus WITH financial aid, but once he indicated “off campus” then his aid was reduced. Now, he needs to be “on campus” and have his aid restored.
BUT…if he never filled out the housing app, then he won’t likely have a dorm
Are there any Millennials that are aware that their smartphones can be used for a voice call?
He said he click the wrong option when accepting the financial aid.

and that may be true. He may have submitted an app for on-campus housing months ago, and he may have been assigned a dorm, but now just needs his funding restored to pay for it.
However, after reading kids’ posts these past years, sometimes when they describe their actions as an accident, they mean in hind-sight it was an accident. He may have intended to select off-campus and not applied for campus housing, because he may have wanted to use his estimated FA for an off-campus apt. If so, then after his aid was reduced, he realizes his mistake and wants to correct that. If so, then he’ll need to make sure that he can still apply for a dorm and that a bed will be available.
Or, he may have a bed assigned to him and he just needs his aid restored.
He’ll have to come back and clarify.
Whatever went wrong, he needs to pick up the phone and make a voice call.
