On the common app I kind of accidentally selected live off campus with my parents but I always intended to live on campus. For my FAFSA I selected on campus for NYU. Do I need to inform NYU about this mistake on the common app? Or it doesn't really matter?

YES. Call admissions and change it, you don’t want to mess around with Housing stuff. You don’t want to run the risk of accidentally being placed on a wait-list for a room because of a clerical error.

If you select on-campus housing on the FAFSA, are you binded to take-up on-campus housning, no matter the FA package you end up getting?

i don’t think so. you can decline Housing if you get accepted. there’s always a waiting list of students for Housing, so they’ll gladly take you off the list and give the bed to someone else.

WAIT a sec - my housing status on NYU Home still says “waitlist” but I got an email weeks ago telling me my assigned room number and roommates - so it’s fine, right?

ya never know with nyu

NYU allows freshman to live off-campus?

^Yes, they do. I know someone who commuted an hour plus everyday their freshman year.

And thank you for the response, missamericanpie.

uh. . . to double check, i would call Housing tomorrow. because when i got into Explorations, they e-mailed me my room number long before it ever showed up on NYUHome. but when i was in normal housing, they never e-mailed me my room number, it ONLY showed up on NYUHome.

@ange

yes, many freshmen choose to commute to save money on Housing.
