Is it common for undergrads to have an account with a taxi company for emergencies? If so, does anyone have any recommendations as to which one?

It is quite common, and I believe United Cab is the most popular. They actually have a pretty good web site. [United Cabs Inc. New Orleans](http://www.unitedcabs.com/) and here is how to set up an account: [Charge Account Application](http://www.unitedcabs.com/id70.html)

Thanks for info, fallen chemist.

We obtained one for our daughter recently with United Cab. They do charge a minimum monthly fee, 12 months a year, for an account.

It seems odd that they would charge an accounting fee, though worth it. Probably not every individual taxi is credit card equipped.

i looked up the info and it is a $10 monthly fee

My s feel that some cab companies are better than others. I’ll check in with him. We did not feel an account was a great idea because we did not want to be the ones paying for all their cab rides when several kids ride together.

the other kids would probably be paying.
They would just be paying a reduced rate.
The problem is that your child, not you, would be the recipient.

As a matter of fact, he/she may just commandeer a cab for the night and give reduced rate rides for hours!

LOL

Yup-- he said United has the market share of teh business and a stand at tulane doesnt just say “taxi” it says “United Taxi”!

i would still like my child to have the option of using the taxi if he has no money in his pocket to do so. more for my peace of mind

We have an account with United Cabs. I recommend that you use them. They are the most reputable. There is a $10 per month fee. It’s just for my peace of mind - to make sure my daughter doesn’t have any reason to forego a cab if she really needs one.
