I’m currently studying at a community college and I absolutely love taking online classes. They’re incredibly flexible and really work with my busy lifestyle. I’m studying accounting and I hope to transfer to an online college to get my Bachelors in Accounting. I know schools like Kaplan and University of Phoenix are online schools but are for profit and not accredited. I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience studying accounting at an online school. What schools are recommended and how did you like them? and Also does it make a difference to employers if I get my degree online or at a traditional campus?
I wouldn’t worry too much about the delivery method (on-line vs. classroom), but I would steer clear of for-profit if possible. Look for an AACSB accredited business program from a not-for-profit university.
Schools like UMass Isenberg or Washington State (and many others) grant the same degree for classroom and on-line. I’d check out those two for sure (both are AACSB accredited).
I do think at least some employers will care if your degree from an online or in a brick-and-mortar school. If you do go the online route, I agree about checking accreditation and choosing a non-for-profit school. I would also talk to someone about the school’s graduation and placement rates, (placement rate should be geared to the geographic area you are from) and be sure you are satisfied with the answers/outcomes before starting any online program.
I agree recruiting and employment is key. Your degree won’t indicate that you were not sitting in a classroom, but you will miss out on recruiting and professional development activities.
Is there a local brick & mortar university (with AACSB accreditation) that offers on-line or hybrid course?
