Does anyone know how many accounting courses a student should've taken by the semester they apply for internships or full-time positions at an accounting firm? I just started a MAcc program, but I am starting from scratch since I didn't major in accounting as an undergrad, so I'm taking a graduate level Financial Accounting class during my first semester. I have yet to take Intermediate I or II, Auditing, or any Tax classes. I plan on finishing the program in two years. A Meet The Firms event is coming up in a week; would I still be eligible for audit internships during the summer, even though I haven't taken any of those classes yet? If not, would I be able to apply for full-time audit positions next fall? I plan on taking Intermediate I in the spring, II over the summer, and Audit next fall. Since I'll be in the middle of taking the audit class next fall, could I still be considered for full-time positions in audit, or will I have to wait until the spring recruiting cycle of my second year?

In interviews they typically wanted to see I was enrolled in or completed the class connected to the internship. So, if I was applying for an audit position they’d like to see I did audit.

They will also like to see your Intermediate I & II scores. Can’t think of what else would be important. Perhaps AIS for auditors as well.

Not sure if schools/area different, but DD and her classmates were offered their summer internship while taking intermediate I before the grades coming out. Most of the acct majors in her school take intermediate I in the fall quarter of junior year and that’s the same time big4/national firm recruit. She also did a winter audit internship before taking audit class.
