Accounting is a great way to make money

55k starting, maybe 85k first year manager, low 100k as a first year senior manager is more accurate based on recent economic conditions. Conclusion, accounting makes decent money and nothing crazy unless you are good enough be partner/corp executive.

[PricewaterhouseCoopers Audit Manager Salary | Glassdoor.com](http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/PricewaterhouseCoopers-Audit-Manager-Salaries-E8450_D_KO23,36.htm)

Audit Manager salary at PwC: 111K + bonus (around 120K total).

I live in New York, and here managers make from 70k-120k depending on the size of a company, but the income taxes are so high that if you make 120k, you will actually get 75 or 80k.

So I guess if you’re with the Big 4 in NYC at manager level (which is, after 5 years of working), you should expect to make somewhere between 105-120K?

That salary is not much if you live in the city, but in the suburbs that can give you a comfortable lifestyle. Obviously you’re not making as much as investment bankers or those that move onto PE or HF (think about how many make it there - only a percentage of those that make it to ibanking in the first place).

I guess if you’re really into finance and want the mega bucks you can try and switch over to the advisory side at the Big 4 after getting some audit experience, and then try to get an MBA/apply to lesser known boutiques for a ibanking position. Or get the CFA and move into investment management. Obviously, easier said than done.

A lot of numbers in this thread seem to be thrown around by people who aren’t sure of the salary figures. I can confirm Big4 Audit starting @ 55-60k in NYC for this year’s graduating class, I have some friends in Tax @ 65k. This is first year out with 150 credits, ready to sit for the CPA exam.

^ Yeah I agree with that too (working at the Big 4 myself), except that you don’t need 150 credits to sit for the exam in NY.

I agree MightyNick I phrased that wrong, I should have said ready for the CPA designation if you pass exams.

Button collar? Kenneth Cole ****? Son, your Blackberry’s like four years old.

Or just jump over to a financial exec position at a large/medium size company, and become financial controller, VP of Finance, CFO, etc. and make 250-300k if you’re good.

While they’re minin’ for 10-Ks out in Saskatchewan, we’re goin’ for bronze at the tanning salon. They try to count value, we straight create it. They get one ****ty idea and 6 years in jail if they bake it. Still get paid in the recession, homie you know this, where’s the dow at (11,000)? Still bigger than their bonus. I gotta a house in the Hamptons and a Penthouse loft, they have no intangibles, is that why their social skills are so soft (yeah I know those aren’t the real lyrics but I have to change it to make fun of accountants)?

lol at Jersey and Cream for quoting the bankers in that youtube video. I, too, enjoyed it very much.
