Accounting is a great way to make money

Anyone dig the idea of making 80,000 DOLLARS after 5 years? I sure do.

Yeah! I agree! Double that amount after 10 years. It’s definitely a stress-free career. And the reputation and prestige that surrounds it is amazing. It’s a hot career. And if you get bored of Accounting (although that is highly unlikely), you can go into any other field you want. I was an accountant for 5 years, now I am an investment banker.

I know what a cush job.

I am probably going to retire at 50 sitting in a nice little pool of money

YAY Accounting!

You two have a lot of time on a Friday morning. Losers.

I am only joking around. Laugh a little, Accountant.

Pretty bad thread.

Some accountants ouch. Probably got one suit, and they bought it from Men’s Warehouse.

creamgetthemoney, i liked the youtube thing so much i took the book out from the library

For the majority of people this is true, but there are some exceptions. Yet, there is no need of being sarcastic.

Relax. Unfortunately after a few years in the business world you won’t think $80K is a lot! I was so excited to be making “a lot” in my first job until I saw how much needed to be saved for a down payment on a house, a decent car (and no, even 25 years ago a luxury car was not happening for me on $80K), good work clothes, meals out and a decent place to live meanwhile.

80k is a lot of money if you don’t get taxed. After taxes, 80k is about a 2k biweekly paycheck.

Debating what is good income is pretty stupid when you have people that live in different areas with different CoLI, isn’t it?

" meals out"

I can see why finances may have been troublesome for you.

Anyone in finance could laugh at all of you in this thread for comparing your numbers. Simple point is, don’t think because you’re making x-amount of money after x-amount of time you’re golden. Some of the people who’ve interviewed me for summer positions have pulled in more than your $80k in their last bonus.

I know right? These accountants need to take their mouses and get back to making 60k a year (ohhhh that’s not a lot of money!)

Accountants make no where that much anymore, you guys are just saying this to each other to make your self feel better about picking a major that’s going to start you out on 20k… You know its true, give me 1 link of a job that shows 80k…

^And you doctors are overpaid.

That 20k is a gross underestimate. You’d be hard pressed to find a full time CPA making anywhere near that.

uhh, more like 50K doctor. And I believe they said 80K after 5 years, not right away. But I guess talking trash makes YOU feel better about yourself.

My wife has a job offer for next fall as a first year auditor at 53k a year, so only starting at 20k isn’t reality.

Is accounting going to get your rich? Certainly not, and neither will any other job that gives you a steady paycheck. You want to be rich, be an entrepreneur or inventor. You want to have enough money to be comfortable, accounting isn’t a bad choice along with countless other professions.

And 55-60K in accounting is only the starting salary (1-2 years of experience). By the time you hit manager you’ll make around 100K and move up after that (close to 200K if you’re senior manager, 200K-1 million if you make partner). And when you hit that 80K salary with 4-5 years of experience, you will most likely get a nice 6 figure salary (between 100-150K) if you move to industry working as a financial analyst or controller.

I know this by talking to family friends and my alum.
