Accounting or Economics?

So I was not offered admission to my first-choice major (Accounting) at CSULB but they said I can be considered for my 2nd choice major (economics).

So here's my dilemma: Should I wait a whole year to apply to accounting again at CSULB + more colleges or should I send a request to be considered for an Economics Major?

I'm thinking Accounting will have more job opportunities for me in the future more so than an Economics major would. What do you guys think? Accounting or Economics? Thanks in advance!

edit: its business economics if that changes anything

I am in a similar dilemma as you. I wanted to do accounting but since it is a restricted major, I ended up declaring as an economics major. I’ve heard that unless you go to an ivy-league school or a school of that caliber ex: MIT,Stanford, etc. then accounting will give you more job oppurtunities. If I were in your situation I would look at my finances and time. If I have the money and the time to wait one year then I would wait. If I didn’t then I would declare as an economics major. Another possibility you could look into considering is getting your BS in Economics and then going for an MS in accounting. Many schools offer two year MS in Accounting programs for non-accounting undergrads. The MS in Accounting should also allow you to sit for the CPA exam. You just have to make sure that you fufill the pre-req’s to get into the MS program. Hope that helps.

Economics majors make more money, have much broader opportunities, and are more well-prepared for graduate school if you ever want to make the real money. Definitely economics, but only if you make sure to take some math, business, computer, and statistics courses along with it.
