Accounting or International Business

Hello,
I am a senior in High School and I am pondering on my upcoming major selections for colleges. I am interested in International business with foreign classes (Chinese). I have heard that if you go into accounting you will have more solid skill sets than if you go to general business major. Also, being a CPA means a higher chance of landing a job. I am contemplating on which one I should pursue or if there’s a choice where I can do both? Thanks !

There is absolutely no reason to decide your major now. If you know you want to go into an undergraduate business school program that is really all you need. Majors don’t need to be declared to the end of your sophomore year at college. By then you would have had a chance to take a number of introductory level classes in business disciplines such as accounting, finance, IT etc. and you will have a better understanding of where your interests and aptitudes lie. Don’t get ahead of yourself!

As an aside I will mention that to become a CPA one now needs 150 credits. Most bachelors programs are about 120 credits so many go on for a one year Master’s degree. However some have enough AP credits to meet the 150 credit requirement in 4 years.
