I was lazy in hs and didn't bother with leadership.
I didn't do anything my 1st semester.
I'm in my 2nd semester, was pledging a frat, got dropped
Soon, 3rd semester's coming up...
I'd still say I stick out like a sore thumb
And I don't know what to do...</p>
<p>Do lots of community service?
Join pointless clubs like math/stat club that meet 3 times a semester to be a leader?

grind myself for 3 years for a great gpa and put in JUST a decent place for my innate personality???

<p>oh yah, i got a 4.0 at gastate 1st sem, on track for 3.9-4.0 this sem.</p>
<p>I'm not sure whether your concern about "leadership" in terms of holding an office, etc. is valid. I think many employers are more interested in knowing whether you can work with others as a team member. You can show this through involvement in community service activities that require working with others such as Habitat, Alternative Spring Break, etc. You don't have to be "Mr./Ms. Congeniality", but it's good to show your dependable and can interact well with others.</p>
<p>i got big 4 offers for telling the interviewers i fired 2 people from my group project because they were slackers and never showed up, they loved that story LOL</p>
<p>anyways, play leadership roles, do events that involve teamwork, know WHY you are going into a particular field (audit/tax/advisory/forensics) and communicate clearly during the interview.</p>
<p>I don't understand what you mean by "weird personality"....lots of people have "weird personalities." However, what would be concerning is if you are not interacting much with others. Being weird is fine, as long as you are able to relate to people in social/business settings. If social interaction is a problem for you, then definitely start getting involved.</p>

<p>Yes, the big 4 want smart folks. This will certainly help you there;however, you will have to develop some people skills if you want to make partner UNLESS you are amazingly smart and hard working.</p>
<p>i have the same problem as you, but i wouldn't describe myself having a weird personality but more of a anti-social personality, although i do like being around people, most of the times i prefer to be by myself. I do get along though when if i have to work with people. I've been slacking off too, haven't gotten involved, i even joined one of those PricewatehouseCoopers competitions that they have for undergrads, the ones with 5 people on a team and you're given a case study and your team has to present infront of people who work for PWC, and at the last minute i backed out because of tests and work which gave me no time to prepare for my presentation. The lady from PWC even sent me an email saying how unprofessional it was to back out of the team at the last minute. My gpa is 3.85 but I'm pretty sure they will probably remember that if i get an opportunity to be interviewed by PWC. Hopefully my work experience at other jobs(i work at ups) will help me land an interview</p>
<p>Well, it was certainly unprofessional of you to back out at the last minute. Once you were committed, you should have followed through. At the same time, I've heard PWC whine about similiar things in the past and then do something similiar (actually worse) themselves. In my books they can go F themselves.</p>

Despite the stereotype of accountants being weird recluses, the people I meet as accounting majors mostly don't fit that... So if most aren't "weird", how exemplary do you have to be in your "people" skills to show them you'll be a "team player"? How does one show this?</p>
<p>Getting in Big Four and being a stud at Big Four are two different things. You can always lie your way into the firm with amazing interview skills. You just have to make a good impression during those important times. Also for those who do not like team work as much, try going to the tax department. Audit is heavily team orientated. Also if you don't have all that leadership ******** clubs etc. You should make up with it with good work experience.</p>
