say if someone cant pass CPA is it still a good degree?

I think the answer is - it depends.

An old college friend of mine, who wound up marrying my BIL, was an accounting major. She tried to pass the CPA a couple of times (this is back when it was only given twice a year and you had to take all parts you hadn’t passed), but never passed. She had a job with one of the Big 8 firms (now Big 4) wound up getting an MBA in Business Systems and had a good career. She always said she got the MBA in a different field to “to help cover up that she didn’t pass the CPA as an accounting major”.

I think you need to ask yourself, where do you want to go with your career. Big firm in a big town will probably require the CPA - if you don’t get it, you will be at a severe disadvantage in the job market. If you are in a smaller town, there are plenty of accountants who offer bookeeping and tax services, who are not certified.

That said, everyone majoring in accounting should probably have a Plan B - just in case.

@chicagobear thats a good answer, thanks. i want to get into banking (not investment banking).
