I am currently attending a community college in New Jersey. However, i am paying for my own education, so money is a big factor on what school i transfer too. I am currently an accounting major. Rowan is an option but i am unsure if accounting firms look at the school you graduated from. To go to a school like Rutgers it would take me 2 and a half years to transfer because i need a ton of prereqs. Someone please help on what i should do?
Yes accounting firms do look at the school. The large accounting firms do not go to every school to recruit and the GPA cutoff is different at different schools. That said, I can’t tell you where Rowan stands so you should do some research on this – perhaps you can contact someone in career placement or in the accounting department to find out if, for example, the Big 4 firms recruit there, what percent of the graduates are employed after graduation etc.
Keep in mind that to become a CPA one needs 150 college credits and most undergraduate programs are around 120 credits. Some people can get to the 150 credits in 4 years with APs, summer classes, overloading schedule etc. but many go on for a one year Master’s in accounting degree.
Rowan just got some funding to increase scholarships for students who are interested in studying business and joining the honors program. Something to think about.
