I have a low cumulative GPA of 2.93 and about to enter my senior year this fall. I haven't found an internship but constantly looking. My goal isn't to work at the Big 4(although if I had the opportunity, I would pursue it). I just want do an internship anywhere that would give me some experience. I want to be working full time as soon I graduate next spring with an accounting degree. I'm still debating on doing the CPA(it all depends if I find a full time job after I graduate). So my question is, is it still possible for me to find a job/internship with my low GPA?

bump!!!

Anyone ???

My weighted GPA is a 4.58 and unweighted is 3.9 plan on getting my masters and then eventually my own firm wayyyyyy in the future! You should take an accounting class, mine did help me understand more of what i was getting into.

Oxygen , I haven’t decided if I want to pursue CPA because I’d like to see the position I’m at when I graduate next spring . I also always constantly check the job board my univserty does . It’s a relief that GPA isn’t everything

ajy,

GPA isn’t everything, you are correct, so have you began looking for internships or are you asking is it worth your while to begin the search? If you haven’t began the search, start doing it now then, the 2.9 GPA is what it is, try to work on improving your GPA while you search for an internship.

And if you want to work in Accounting, please get the CPA license. It’s only my opinion, but it just seems so weird for individuals who plan on being directly involved in public or private accounting to NOT go after the CPA License or at least the CMA License. Makes absolutely no sense.

Tucker , thanks for the input . Just wondering, is there anyone on here that actually graduated with a bad GPA in accounting and was able to find a job after they graduated?

Ate you in college?

I second that. Individuals who are going into direct accounting positions who chose to NOT take the CPA Exam and become CPAs, is sort of like going to law school but not sitting for the bar exam to me. It just seems so weird lol, you have already spent 4 years studying Accounting and years working in Accounting, for goodness sakes enroll in a solid CPA Exam Review course for 8 months and take the CPA Exam lol.

Thanks for your guys honest answers! I guess I wasn’t sure of pursuing the CPA because I’m so anxious to graduate and work full time now. Also it’d be expensive for another year of school. But I’ll defiantly consider it.

…
