Accurately Positive Impression of Wesleyan

I thought it would be helpful for prospective students and their parents to see here the comments of a poster named "MG9999" who visited the Wesleyan campus just two weeks ago:

"Wesleyan – Based on a few negative CC posts, expected a hippie student body and dangerous surrounding community, but found it totally charming and invigorating. Friendly, down-to-earth students, all seeming very intent on their studies but still relaxed and happy. Artistic, intellectual feel but with student athletes well represented, as well. Daughter loved the graduated housing plan they offer. Admissions rep was vibrant and frank--best info session we attended. Incredible selection of student activities posted everywhere. We went back to Middletown for dinner that night and felt quite safe walking around."

That comment matches my impression as well as that of my sophomore son who attends Wesleyan. Some people may prefer to repeat well-worn stereotyped comments about Wesleyan, but the reality is much different.

I completely agree. I’m a current high school senior, and whenever I told anybody that I was considering Wesleyan, I would get “Middletown sucks, they’re a bunch of free-loving drug-abusing hippies, and it’s way too close (I live a half hour away).” Today, Wesleyan was playing Middlebury in soccer, so I figured I would go to watch the game. We had coffee on main street, watched the game which was very well attended by the student body, and even got some advice on how to parallel park by a current student. Every time I visit I love it a little more. Such an idyllic and charming place nestled in middle CT.

I am so jealous that you get to go there all the time!

It is definitely a pleasant luxury.
