accusation of cheating

Yesterday I took the PSATs and i was accused of cheating. After the exam was over, the teacher was in the process of calling students up to collect the books. While she was collecting the books, my friend and I talked and she accused us of "sharing answers." We did not shared answers, cheat, etc. We jsut talked. She reported to collegeboard asking waht to do but then I have a feeling she did not incorporate our explaination. She probly jsut wrote taht we were cheating? What do i do?? How can i have a say? If i get accused of cheating and it goes on my transcript it will be ocmpletely unfair after i have worked al lthese years to do well in school. Im so strseed and paranoid.

First of all take a deep breath and count to 10.

If the proctor reports that she observed you cheating the CB will probably send you a letter saying they are dis-allowing your score. You’ll have an opportunity to reply but it will do you no good. They will back their proctor.

But, its the PSAT. Which, other than for NMS, means nothing. I doubt they’ll place any marker on your record or tell any college.

Consider it a lesson learned and move on. Its not the end-all you think it is.

but then i did not do anythign wrong. so why should i have my scores canceled?

anyone else know whatto do in this situation?

Talk to the teacher first and find out what happened - use a calm voice. If you go up to an adult with no intention of maintaining your composure, he or she will not take you seriously. Make sure you know her whole story. No sense worrying if there is no issue at all. If there is, talk with your guidance counselor and your principal and figure out how to settle the mess.

Best of luck. Try not to do anything that could cause something like this to happen ever again. Better safe than sorry.

i talked to the teacher that proctored me and she wrote a report anyway. she doesnt even listen. i also notified the principal on what happneed. problem with my school is that there have been bad things hapening and like guidance are not gonna be much of help. do i get a say on what ahppend with collegeboard. also if they say i cheated waht are the consequences. do they automatically count my test as invalid or do they check

plus i dont know what the proctor wrote on the report. we told her repeatedly taht we did not cheat and the test was over while we were talking etc but tehn she might have wrote that we were cheating anyways.

^Is their a any cameras in your classroom? IF not, then it’s looking fairly grim.

Collegeboard might do a comparison between the 2 tests and they might be able to prove your innocence… Low chance though.

no cameras
if they compare our tests wudnt some answers be obviulsy similar becuase we got some right and maybe a few similar ones wrong??? how do they judge it?

if they accuse us of cheating, what happens? do i go on a "black"list and like haev it on my record or do they jsut cancel score and pretned nothing ever happened

Technically, you are at fault. Even if you didn’t have your books but someone else does you still aren’t following the rules. Now, I can’t understand why a teacher would be so nit picky, but there’s not much you can do.

eeryone else was doing the same but we got picked out so yeah…messed up
either way do you think collegeboard will look at it as cheating or check and compare?

It depends if decide if it is cheating before or after they grade it. If they just take the proctors word and don’t even grade it, your screwed. But I would say it is a little more likely they will look into it at least a little.

i i explain my story do you think tat they will consider checking my answer with the other guys??? but if they still take the proctors word what are the conseequences?

Maybe you and your friend were not talking, but if this test was important to you shouldn’t you have used better judgment and not participated in a conversation until after the test? By the time a person is in high school I would think that they would know that they need to keep quiet during a high stakes test. You also have to understand that the proctor didn’t hear what was being said, only that you were talking during the test. Even if you are honest about the conversation, a lot of high school students are not and the proctor has to do his or her job. Let’s be honest, you put yourself in this mess and no matter what your intent was, you chose to talk. Take whatever sanction comes about and learn from this.

Yes i did talk but it was after the test and the rest of the room was too.She was collecting books. i know some people mite say if someone jumps off a bridge wud you but then thats not wat matters. why are the other people not going through this?? wen she reported us to the sat coordinator she said that it was bc we were sharing answers and talking. I emailed an administrator about this and he talked wtih her. this time she said she reported us because we had our books opened. first of all we did not have them open, and how come she didnt say this to us previously…yea

ok i got a letter from ets(i odnt think Cb has anything to do with psat, not sure) today on the issue. it says they have no reportable score ofr my psat becasue the supervisor reported that i failed to follow directions by comparing your answers with another test taker. they left a number i can contact but no ones there.

does this mean my score got canceled and thats it? or does this go on my transcript or is there a trace of this happening anywehre??

You won’t be able to get into college or get a job anywhere after cheating. They take it very seriously.

it doesn’t go on your record in any way. they canceled your score. that’s it. just make sure your GC doesn’t mention it when she writes your rec next year.

The obvious thing to do now is to get her back. Make sure she never watches over an SAT again, get her fired, key her car, kill her dog… get creative.

so whats the answer???does it have any trace when i apply to college or not…does it even show up as canceled score since its psat

Sweeeet sweet revenge.
