My friend recently got in trouble for cheating because she programmed the answers into her calculator and her teacher caught her looking.
The problem is, I’m in the only other class and I took the test a class before. and today, our teacher told us that he knows one kid from our class snuck out answers and that he’s almost 100% sure who it was (while he glared at me the entire time). I didn’t notice he was watching me until someone pointed it out and surely, he was… He mentioned that he won’t say any names but will surely talk to the student once all the tests have been graded.
I don’t blame him for accusing me either. This class is very hard and out of the 20-some kids in my class, there are probably only 2 or 3 that can get most of or all of the multiple choice right. Out of those 3, I’m the only one that even knows the girl that got caught (and the teacher knows we know each other).
My friend has already been punished for her actions and regrets having the answers. After the incident in class, I asked her where she got her answers from and she told me she heard a clique of boys talking about the test in the lunch room (and I completely believe her because cheating in the lunch room happens so often).
I know the teacher is going to talk to me soon, but I’m not sure what to do. There’s quite a bit of (weak) evidence against me and I really don’t want my parents and the administration involved because they have enough to deal with. If I were the teacher, I’d accuse me too because there really is almost no other way the answers could’ve gotten out. It’s quite easy to steal a test or glance off of the answer sheet pile and jot the answers down (I was the last one to hand in my test) but I really think that’s stretching it. I’m just freaking out because I’m afraid he’ll notify the NHS Sponsors or even worse, have it put on my permanent record.
How should I approach this problem? What do you think the consequences will be if I am wrongfully punished? Have any of you experienced this before? Truthfully, I just want this to be over with as soon as possible because with AP testing coming up, I don’t need to be stressing over anything else.
Thank you.
