I go to a community college, and they told me that I'd be getting an ACG, but that they were still processing it, but today they just told me that I'm ineligible. They say it's because I'm not a "new student" since I took 8 units at my community college while I was in high school. But I didn't know that this was part of the eligibility requirements as it doesn't say I need to be a new student, but a freshman, which I still am. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

As long as you are a freshman, it doesn’t matter that you took college classes in high school. The only time that matters is if you come into college as a sophomore due to dual enrollment credits and/or AP credits. If you are still a freshman, you just have to satisfy the minimum coursework requirements for high school. The requirements are by state, and you can find them listed here: [Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG) Recognized State Rigorous Secondary School Programs of Study](http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/about/ac-smart/state-programs.html).

If for some reason you don’t meet the requirements (which have no wiggle room), you can also qualify if you scored at least a 3 on 2 AP exams.

So could I contact the federal aid commission, because they say that they won’t give it to me.

By they I mean my school.

What you need to do is find out exactly why they are denying you the ACG. Get it in writing … email the aid office and request a written explanation of the denial. Then PM it to me (I have ACG responsibility in an aid office & am well versed in the regulations). I will advise you of your options at that point. You need to get the real reason for denial first.
