acknowledgement of receipt

I don't know if this has been asked before but could anyone please explain whether universities acknowledge receipt of application through an e-mail.I applied(through common application) to Rice but I haven't received any correspondence from it although Cornell,to which I also applied, did send an e-mail. How do we check the status of our application? Don't we get a PIN or something?
I am an international so I don't know much about how the application process works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Rice will send you an email in about a week containing a PIN and the link to a website where you will be able to verify that all your supplement forms and recommendations, tests, etc have been received.
The information should be posted by January 14th (according to Rice).

You can also call their office of admissions ahead of time and check with them, they are very helpful whenever you call them about anything.

Good luck!

When I was on campus on Wednesday the admissions office told me it would be possible to check the status of your application on their website by the end of the week. So soon.

Thanks Beef and dauntlessthedrab for your prompt replies. I was getting quite worried.

Hopefully, the admission office will contact soon.

almawins,

I submitted my app on Dec 22 and didn't get my PIN for 2 weeks, so I e-mailed them and they promptly sent it to me.
