Act accused me of cheating! Help please

I got a letter today saying that my scores were irregular and they were similar to another persons in my testing room and that I need to either
TAKE IT OVER
or
CANCEL THE SCORES!!!

WHAT DO I DO!
I did really good and I really don't know if I can get that score again especially after not opening the book in so long!!! I already heard from colleges and got into my top choice!

You are in a great fix my bro. Well…you can call up the Collegeboard…explain the situation.
Ummm…and if they insist then you better take it again because you have no other choice.
I hope that the concerned people will understand your problem…

Ignore it?

youngconfused-First, take your finger off the caps key.
You have to take the test over.
If you do not, CB will have a disclaimer of the possibility of cheating when they send the scores to colleges.
So, study again and take the test.
You are not alone, the “other person” is also having to retest.
Do not fight this, the battle will not be worth it.
Are they making you pay for the test again?

^That sounds like a terrible idea (@Forking)

Did you SEND the ACT score to the college? (Didn’t maybe just send the SAT , did you?)

wow that’s so crazy i’ve never heard of such.
are you sure it was a completely legitimate, official letter? did it sound really serious?

it doesn’t add up that they sent you this letter now, wayyyy past all colleges have began sending out decision letters. what is the ACT expecting you to do really? by the time you retook the test and got your scores back…it just doesn’t make sense.

regardless, you need to call ACT. figure out what your options are and what you need to do from here. if it sounds like they are really serious, you should probably just retake it. if you already got into your first choice there is too much to lose. i highly doubt colleges would revoke your acceptance over it, even if your score dropped.

don’t freak out too much, i’m sure you’ll be fine

I’m trying not to freak out and thank you everyone for being supportive…

They are making me take it privately on their expense.
I got a 28 and I have to get a 25 for them to consider it… I really hope I can do it again but I’m having huge doubts especially because I haven’t looked at anything in a long time!

I took the SAT once but ACT was much easier for me so I wouldn’t send my SAT scores because they weren’t good.

Youngconfused- You were admitted to your first choice school based on the “questionable ACT” score?
If so, then you have no other recourse but to take the ACT again.
Study hard and go in with the attitude that you will smash the 28 and show CB they accused the wrong guy.
Get off CC and go study.
Good Luck.

If you got a 28 the first time without cheating, it shouldn’t be hard to get at least-- at least– a 25 the second time. Big fluctuations in scores are not normal on the ACT.
Do a little review if you’re nervous, but if you really did get your score the honest way the first time, I would be shocked to see your score fall more than 1-2 points just from lack of recent practice. The only thing you could have possibly forgotten since then is a few math formulas. Everything else is just comprehension skills.

I agree with Prussia!. You should be able to achieve a 25. Also, having taken the actual test you will have the ‘testing effect’ on your side. This is more or less a learning effect having taken the test under actual circumstances and usually adds to one’s score modestly. I also agree with an earlier comment…you really cannot fight this. They are security experts and have all the data (cards?) on their side. Good luck.
