Ummm Really Need To Know If Anyone Has Got This Letter From ACT??

or heard of anyone that has gotten it... it is a letter saying that i need to send ACT a letter and my transcript saying how i did better on my 2nd ACT score.

first time i got a 20.
second time i got a 25.

the note says that they compared my answers with that of someone in my room and we had similar answers... ok... i didnt cheat however. My math and writing stayed the same and i went from a 15 in science to a 26 in science only bc i studied extremely hard for science. The first time i took the ACT i was way out like 2 hours away from home and i was extremely nervous and on the science i literally filled in random bubbles and managed to get 15.. this time i studied and got a 26... so. Ok so anywassy i am of course going to explain this to them and they will see from my transcript i have a 3.52 uw and i am a good student....

has anyone heard of this.. and they say my scores were still sent to colleges and they do not notify the colleges about this just that i have to send them a letter.... will everything be cleared up, it better be... i dont want to be punished for imporoving by studying.. anyone know anything about this??

thanks a lot!

I haven't heard of it but I'm sure everything will be okay and it won't turn out like those kids in "Stand And Deliver." No worries! I'm sure its just a precaution they have to take. Just send them your transcript and explain honestly the situation.

It's actually refreshing to hear that they actually do stuff like this.

It sounds as if your reasoning is perfectly legitimate and it's not like you went from a 14 to a 36. I think you should be ok.

You'll be ok. You're lucky this isn't ETS, otherwise they always assume you did cheat, and don't really give you a chance at all to redeem yourself unless you take the test again in a secluded room and the other test in canceled. This is why I like the ACT, and I live in an SAT state.

it says on the notice that "we compared your answer sheet with others from the center where you tested and found an unusual similarity between your responses and those of the examinee with the same test form who was seated near you."

K first off i did not cheat, lets just all know that please. I am writing the letter to them stating exactly why i did better (studying, less nervous etc. all honest reasons and they will be seeing my transcript which shows i am a smart kid). WHat the heck happens if they dont believe me.. i am started to become scared.. can someone please comfort me..urg!!!

Well I think it might be more believable if you tell them that you didn't even try (which sounds like what you did on the Science part (not being offensive)) on the first test and on the second one you worked hard on it and focused. I would want to question who they compared it to because for all they know the person could've been on the opposite end of the room. I don't know how that accusation can hold water because if two people scored a 29, obviously they must've answered similar to each other also. I'd only question your integrity on that if your essay responses were too close 2 each other also if you took the writing test. If you had a fam member as a lawyer who knew how to word statements and wanted 2 kind of play the politics game, you could try and word it to the effect of getting the point accross, "The test supervisors did an excellent job of watching us to make sure we didn't cheat and how could you say these fine people didn't do their job." to maybe scare them to back off, but i'm going overboard there. I'm sure as long as everything you did was honest, you shouldn't have a problem. I might suggest though that when you send out your transcripts you maybe should ask a teacher to include a letter to explain your character and say that you are a honest and good person.

i have included that exact thing already in my letter.. and btw on my first test i got to the science section and was so frusterated with my performance i filled in random answers and was lucky to get a 15. the 2nd go around i studied my ass off and got a 26 on science and i was dam proud of myself! what do you guys think about sending in a teacher stating my integrity and even my counselor... i really hope the ACT people respect me enough to read through everything i am going to send them and why this is not who i am and i did not cheat. sorry guys i am just overwhelmed right now

thank you fot the posts

I don't see how it can hurt to have letters sent with the transcripts. Maybe just include a cover letter stating that these letters are to your defense.

don't worry...you are innocent until proven guilty (in this case), and If you have valid reasons for why your score was higher (and it definitely seems that you do), then don't stress about it.

thanks for all the responses guys and i am beginning to calm down and am hoping everything will be fine as long as i am honest and tell them how i improved...

i am sending in a letter of course
i am sending in the real book cover of the book i used to study with.
my transcript which shows i am FULLY capable of a 25 on the ACT (they want this).
as well as two teacher documents that express my high level of integrity in the class room as well as my values, etc.

thanks a lot!

you'll be fine. ACT is just taking precautions.
please let us know what happens

thanks for the positive comments. Do you guys think the teacher paragraphs are too much or are good?

thank you everyone.

would anyone mind or want to read my letter that i am sending to ACT explaining my case, improvement, etc...

thanks a lot

SO i am just writing my letter and sending my transcript. This whole process freaks me out... like urg, why! Its not my fault someone in the room's answers were similar to mine and just bc i went up 5 points i am being looked at.. poop. i really hope this all ends..

any comforting thoughts, stories of this, etc... anyone know anything i dont?
sorry again, i get stressed very easily and dont like having my future put on hold due to something like this that i have no control over besides speaking the truth and hearing from you guys makes it better. anyone...? thanks

Research various student advocacy articles online concerning how to respond to a cheating accusation... part of it is being assertive and not ceding ground.

"Ok so anywassy i am of course going to explain this to them and they will see from my transcript i have a 3.52 uw and i am a good student...."

Well, I know the ETS wouldn't even consider that .... would the people behind the ACT?

yes, they will. i believe that's why they requested the transcript from the OP in the first place iirc. since the ACT is a smaller entity than ETS, they can afford to focus more on the individual. one more think that makes them so midwest :)
