first of all, are the two writing sections very similar? becuz i have a 10 real NEWr SATs w/ writing for nothing like that for ACT--is studying for the SAT writing good enuff for ACT writing?

and, on both of the essays, is a strong intro/conclusion necessary, or is a one-two sentence intro and conclusion good enuff for a 12 as long as theres enuff support and stuff

easy questions, easy answers, help me out ppl

Pretty much the same? I don't know, the prompts seemed very, very different. The SAT prompts gave you a philosophical quote or something and asked you to expound. The ACT gives you a situation and was in my opinion much more fun to write. Some of the sample prompts asked you to write a letter defending your opinion on an issue...for instance, on the March SATs, my prompt was relating to the effectiveness of majority rule. For the ACTs, it dealt with whether high schools should begin the school day later.

Yea I the ACT topics are more school oriented for whatever reason.
Previous prompts were what methods you would use to teach and the one about starting school later. Their sample essay topic is on dress code.

I guess you could say that ACT writing is where you give practical reasoning and SAT is where you give examples and allusions.

"and, on both of the essays, is a strong intro/conclusion necessary, or is a one-two sentence intro and conclusion good enuff for a 12 as long as theres enuff support and stuff" what about that?

and by writing section, i also meant the multiple choice part...are teh two very similar?
