So I’ve taken the ACT and SAT each twice, my scores going up both time
SAT- 1400 (1st), 1500 (2nd)
ACT- 30 (1st), 33 (2nd)
I got the second round of scores with little preparation and was hoping that by preparing for the ACT in September, I could get a 35+, however since Stanford is not a score choice school, does it look unfavorable to be taking tests this many times, is my 33 good enough for Stanford considering I’m 2/287 and have a 4.0 GPA, also I’m neither asian nor urm, white (north african) and will be taking sat iis in about
Your test scores won’t be what get you into/keep you out of Stanford as they are well within range. I think your time would be better spent on essays, but you could re-test if you want.
I agree with @Hamlon. Apply to Stanford, send the scores you have (which are excellent). Spend your time on essays but also on researching schools that have an acceptance rate over 5%. Also, remember that of the 4.8% of applicants that Stanford accepts, most of them have some significant “hook” (URM, athlete, …).
Stanford is a great university. There are LOTS of other great universities.
Your 33 and 1500 should put you past the initial filter into the “they will look at your file” pile. Here is a link to some Stanford statistics published for 2016 applications (2017 is less detailed). http://admission.stanford.edu/apply/selection/profile16.html While they don’t break down ACT scores in similar detail, note that applicants with 800 in various sections of the SAT were far from shoo-ins. After some level of score, what distinguishes the applicants will be their essays, LoR’s and EC’s. That is why there are candidates with SAT scores in the 600 to 700’s that are also accepted. It’s not to say a 35 or a 36 won’t make you a stronger candidate than a 33, so to me you need to ask the question as to how much time and effort you will need to put in to maybe pull up your score 2 or more points vs using that time to polish your essays, ensure your 1st semester A’s, accomplish something noteworthy in one or more of your EC’s, or just enjoy your senior year.
BTW, Stanford will require you to turn in all scores of both your SAT’s and ACT’s.
Don’t take it again, five is a lot, and the adcoms will think you’re too test focused and all you’ll do in class is prepare for test by going to the library and not engaging with the community.
And as other have said, without a hook, Stanford is pretty much a lottery, you’re not an ORM, in which case it would be astronomical odds to get in.
It’s a long shot to begin with (even for applicants with perfect stats). A 30 in the English subsection and an 8 in the writing probably won’t be the reason why you are denied admissions. The 33 composite would put you in the 32-35 middle 50% range for the Class of 2021.
