I've got this problem of getting super nervous and stressed out before standardized tests. I tend to stay awake all night the night before the exam because I just get super worried about my performance. But really, my lack of sleep is what ends up ruining my performance. The ACT coming up this Saturday is already starting to get me a bit stressed out. For some reason, I think about these tests as my only hope of getting into college. And to be honest, I've already got the score I need to get into the colleges that I'm applying to, but a higher score means more scholarships. The upcoming ACT on Saturday is pretty much my last shot. I've only gotten a 29 so far, but I know I've got what it takes to raise my score by at least a few points. On practice tests, I constantly score 34-35's on English and Math, 29-32's on Reading, but my science is just all over the place. Does anyone have any experience with test anxiety? What works for you when you get stressed the night before the exam? Please help! Thanks.

As a religious person, I believe that my future is already planned out. That helps me rest and literally have “Jesus take the wheel”.

Besides which, if you can bring me ONE person who accomplished their goals through unnecessary worrying, I would be his/her indentured servant for the rest of my life.

Take a deep breath, review your materials, and reason with yourself like “If I get a same or lower score, it still wouldn’t affect my college admissions, but if I get a higher score with even just a point increase, I have a chance for a scholarship”.

Good luck!

^ Thanks. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult for me to alter the way I think about the test.

Try foods rich in B and C vitamins, and get lots of sleep starting tonight if possible. Read a super boring book on Friday night (in your bed w a book light) and hopefully you’ll fall fast asleep w/o thinking of the test.

A 29 is an excellent score! Find comfort knowing the overwhelming majority of students would not even sit for another ACT if they had a 29 in the bag
