What is the average ACT composite score for direct admit nursing students? Also, is there any priority for local students intending to major in nursing? Thanks!
No priority for local students for the direct admit Nursing major.
This is what is posted on the SDSU Nursing website:
Admission to the School of Nursing is very competitive. Over the past two years, successful direct admission applicants had an average high school GPA of 3.96, SAT score of 1250, and a Math SAT score of 649. Admission to the School of Nursing is for the fall semester only.
So if you convert the 1250 to ACT standards, you get 28 which is actually low based on Eligibility index values that I have collected for the last 2 years. These EI values are not complete and are not representative for all Nursing school admits by the EI’s have ranged from a low of 1070 using ACT calculation to a high of 1220.
Since the Nursing program has a less than 5% acceptance rate, the higher the ACT and GPA, the better.
@gumbymom Do they say what the average CSU GPA is for admission to nursing? Thanks!
I would assume that the Average CSU GPA would be the 3.96 since that is what they use for admission purposes.
My daughter had a 29 ACT and 4.1 CSU GPA and was waitlisted for nursing
@Gumbymom re: SDSU Nursing, I have a student with EI’s of 4520 SAT / 1120 ACT. From your prior posts, her chances look good for admission. Does SDSU also look at the rigor of the curriculum, or just the EI?
They look at HS course rigor not just EI. I have seen many applicants in that EI range that got in and many that did not. With such a low acceptance rate <5% it is basically like a lottery.
I was waitlisted with a 25 ACT and 4.21 CSU GPA. I eventually got off the waitlist though. My friend was flat out rejected with a 4.1 something CSU GPA but a 29 ACT. I took the hardest AP Classes (Calc BC, AP Bio etc) offered at my school while she did not. Therefore, I think grades and course rigor do play a huge role.
If admitted to the nursing program at SDSU, what
GPA must be maintained? I tried calling the dept to find out but no luck.
No local advantage unless your high school participated in the Compact for Success (out of Sweetwater HS district- http://go.sdsu.edu/compact/requirements.aspx#1 )
For future references, the average GPA for this program is 4.04 and the average ACT is ~29

@negirl508 Did your daughter ever get off of the waiting list?
No @worldstudent. She actually ended up going to the University of Connecticut for nursing and loves it. Good luck to you!!
