Act Comp was 30, but should son re-take it.

Son just received ACT scores. First time taking the ACT...and didn't study.
His scores: Composite = 30, English 31, Math 25, Reading 32, Science 32, Combined English Writing 27 (writing 6). We is looking at a Chemistry major, schools like RIT, U of Rochester, RPI, Clarkson, U or Buffalo. Should he study and re-take?

yes, if he’s motivated. these schools may have scholarship $. a better act score will do him (and you good). 30 is sufficient for admission though. if gpa is not high, then scholarships may be difficult as well. so don’t bother retaking.

it just depends on if you want to pay for the test again. i got a 30 the first time without studying, and it only took a tiny bit of studying to get a 32. as a chemistry major, he really should try to bring up that math score, imo.

His unweighted GPA is a 3.8 and he is taking AP History, College Spanish, English Honors…no AP Math offered in his school. He is a National Honor Student, active officer in two school clubs, in skiing and golf…he has a phyiscal disability that limits his atheletic abilities…

i’d say it’s worth extra $50 and a good measure of studying. if het gets a 32+ that can open some $ opportunities for him. i’d say take it again. he got to prove himself that he tried his best.

He could take it to try to improve his score, as I recomend, but he doesn’t have to. He should take it at least twice a year, just to see.
