ACT curve July

My daughter is considering taking the Juky 2018 ACT. This is the first time it is offered.

She has a LD and was granted extended time.

We just aren’t familiar with ACT curving and don’t want to disadvantage her if this new July testing is expected to be a more difficult sitting.

Any thoughts?

She won’t be. The curve will be “normalized” if needed.

Great! I honestly don’t understand the curving, but having testing done in summer will be a relief.

The ACT does not curve like you would think. ACT has numerous tests that it uses multiple times. Some are a little easier or harder than others and there is a small difference in median and average scores and the ACT has a factor for each test that makes them comparable to others . Your daughter’s score will actually be pre-determined before she even sits down based on the actual number of correct answers she eventually makes, because her scores will be determined by a comparison to prior test-takers not the ones who are taking the test on the same day.

Correct, in other words the curve is set from previous sampling not dependent on who else is taking the test that day. While some tests are easier than others, the curve should be adjusted so that “most” students “should” get quite close to same score on an easier test or harder test on a given day/circumstances.
