ACT for Ivies

What are your opinions on the score that won't be detrimental to the acceptance of a student(white male) to any of the Ivies? (including ivy league caliber; Uchi, etc.)

Because I have a 34 Composite
30 English
36 Math
33 Reading
35 Science
32 English+writing (12 essay)

I'm convinced that it isn't enough, but everyone (gc, academic dean, teachers) keeps telling me once you're in the 99th percentile(school doesn't really deal with this...34 is the highest in the history of my school (by 5 points)) it doesn't really matter...

Would this help, hurt, or be neutral in top schools' decisions and should I retake the test for English (had a 26 the first time I took it then 30 the second time...don't know if I could raise it up more though) or should I focus on SAT 2s?

A 34 is great. No need to retake unless you have lots of time. Focusing on SAT2’s will be a fantastic idea. Even though many colleges require SAT with subjects OR just the ACT, great subject test scores will only improve your application.

Great job on your ACT and school record!

What kind of school do you go to…?

That ACT is fine; at that point, they won’t base acceptance off the score.

Small private school that will send someone to an ivy once every 3 or 4 years—not competitive standardized tests wise—out of the 196 kids in my grade, 5 have an SAT of 1800 or higher, 2 have 1900 or higher, and I have a 2120…(highest by 190) (current Valedictorian is me) Salutatorian has a 1930, and a 28 ACT—not really competitive at all. The class of 2011 was a complete and utter failure—no one got into any great schools (best school someone is going to is binghamton—#4 and 5 are going there)

& my 2120 is highest in history too x_x (average sat is definitely below 1400)

That’s pathetic, not to bash your school. Hopefully college will present better opportunities (as it should, with that exemplary ACT score).

Thanks =) and it’s not completely pathetic—2006 and 2008 valedictorians both went to Harvard (with sub 1400/1600 on the SAT)
If I get into an ivy, I would be the first white person, as well as male, to get into one…
I honestly don’t know why the top kids at my school don’t score well at all…

Any other opinions on the cutoff score for someone to legitimately be considered for a while male?

white* loll

ZaZa, you have a 34. Don’t worry about a “cutoff” score. Your score is above the average score of freshmen at any school in the nation.
