I'm an incoming senior, and I don't test well with the SAT. I'm thinking of taking the ACT for the first time next month (September ACT), and I just started prepping for it. I really need some advice boosting my score up from around 27-29 to 32. I think I need help most in the reading and science section, mostly science because I find it difficult to scrutinize the data sometimes.
Is there any tips, advice, or so for doing well the first time? I'm a high honors and IB diploma student- I just don't take standardized testing well. Anything comments are appreciated!
Also, any good prep books in mind besides the Real ACT? Thank you guys!

I suggest planning for a second test. Almost everyone does better the second time around after learning the format and understanding the time constraints.

Science is the one section that many feel varies the most. Sometimes much more difficult than the previous test and sometimes easier.

Reading just takes practice to increase speed. That was the hardest section for my son.

Agree with kldat1, plan on more than one testing.
Also, take an actual test as practice one to two weeks before the real thing.
Take it on a Saturday (8am, exact timing, one break, silence…). Just google for “released ACT
test” and grab the most recent one, or two, you find. Find where your weaknesses
are and work on those. Good luck.
