I sent a request by mail (with a check) to have my multiple choice answer document hand-scored a few weeks ago. There was a pretty big smudge on my math section and I scored lower on the math than I had wanted, so I just decided to send in a re-score request.

Does anyone know how long this process takes? The ACT website says 3-5 weeks after they receive the request, but I know people who received their scores way before (and after) the website said they should have. Also, do they update your online scores or just send you a new score report by mail?

ACT mails you a letter with the results of the hand-scoring about 3–5 weeks after they receive your request. I found this on the ACT website :

“If the error is our responsibility and does not involve retesting, then we will send corrected score reports, without charge, to you and your high school (if you authorized reporting) and to each college or agency that received an incorrect report (if you provided valid codes).”
