My son just received his June ACT scores and his reading score went from a 33 to a 24. All of his other scores were comparable to the first time he took the test. I'm considering asking them to hand score it. Has anyone done this? With successful results? Thanks!

I did it with my daughter’s essay. She originally got an 8, but after having it handscored again they raised it to a 10. They said I would be getting a check soon refunding my fees I paid to have it rescored since it was their error, but I haven’t received anything yet. It was worth it. A 33 comp with a 10 essay just seems much better.

How did he feel about the reading score. If he didn’t think he bombed it, I would definitely have it rescored!

Thanks for your response. He said the passage was something weird about eels, but he thought he might have left a lot of smudge marks which I guess can cause computer error? What made you think her essay should be rescored? Going from an 8 to 10 is definitely worth it!
