I’m taking the ACT again in October and I need to get at least a 31 on the reading section (all of the sections really). What are some good resources that I can use within the next 2.5 weeks. I have been practicing but I have finally narrowed down my problem in reading and I really need to nail it down. So my question is: What are good and accurate resources that I can use to practice for the reading section? Also, what are the oldest tests that I can still use.
I already have the Red Book (only one test left), I’ve been on **** and gotten a few tests from them, using **** ACT online, NOT going to use McgrawHill 10 ACT exams because they are not accurate…
The Red Book will be your best tool for math and science in light of recent changes made to those sections by the ACT folks (e.g. matrix algebra). Crack ACT is a great site for actual tests used in the past. As a bonus, it’s free! As for the reading section, are you reading the questions first and then skimming the reading passages? My D used this method, plus a few tips from the ACT Prep Black Book, to achieve her 36 in reading this September.
@Hellofagal- honestly I’m kinda stuck with the reading. I’m not sure of the best techniques to use. Do you think you could get her to give me some tips or techniques that she used. Also, I’ve got the Black Book and I was wondering how strong its reading content was.
The only problem I have with CrackACT is that there are no explanations for the answers. For reading, this is almost useless to me when deciding between specific answers and determining which one is “more” correct,
Have you tried asking in the ACT subforum?
If you have 2.5 weeks, the best you can do is practice reading and answering any sample tests online–while you time yourself-- or available in test prep books. Practice the timing, and just relax. Sleep well, read a novel, eat healthfully, exercise often and visualize only success and what that looks like in the time you have. You’ll do wonderfully!
